Varg’s eyes never shifted. Did it mean this man was something else? Not a wolf shifter?

“Where are we going?” he steeled himself and met the man’s gaze.

“To the next stop on the road.” The man chuckled and slammed Eli’s door shut.

Kol watched as Elora opened a drawer and looked down at the socks in it.

“Why don’t you lie on the bed, and I’ll give you the sock when you’re ready?” He didn’t like the apprehension in her. She wasn’t backing out, but he could tell she didn’t want to do it.

“It might not be the right one, and then we’ll waste hours while I recover.”

Kol nodded. It would be a shame. “It’s not something we can control. All socks are rolled up in pairs except two, I think it’s a good chance he’s wearing the mates of those two.” Had it been his sock drawer, he’d assumed they’d got lost in the laundry, but Elijah kept a neat home, and Elora was sure he wore mismatching socks. “I have a map right here.” He held it up to her, and she nodded.
