Chapter 28

Now that he was away from the crowd, Ethan felt a seed of panic plant in his breast. Keeping his eyes low, he swallowed it. The hands in his pants pockets were trembling, so he balled them into tight fists. Deborah would see that. She would absolutelysee that. Ethan had never been great thinking on his feet, but he was hopeful his witty comeback was enough to keep reporters off his tail, at least for a while.

Instinctively, his eyes snapped up to where Finn stood, surrounded by a crowd of production people, all chatting and laughing with one another. Finn looked simply joyful. Though Ethan felt the warning signs, he managed to get his emotions in check. If Finn saw him with even a hint of distress on his face, it would ruin the night.

No. He’d survived the interview. He’d survive the awards. If not for himself, then for Finn.
