Chapter 38

Julian’s house sat in the middle of the block. Fake cobwebs decorated his fence, and an old, run down scarecrow jutted up from the dirt of his lawn. There were a few rubber body parts were shoved into the bushes of his front porch, and his door now sported an Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Heresign.

The couch was all ready to go for the evening. A big plastic cauldron full of candy sat next to it, the coffee table stacked with at least ten horror DVDs. Everything from the classic Universal monsters to gore porn. The perfect set up for a great Halloween night.

“I’m gonna go change,” said Julian, already on his way to the back bedroom. “You need a touch up? I’ve got plenty of fake blood left over from last year.”

“I will later—” Finn’s words halted when he heard the doorbell ring. Excitedly, he threw open the door. The first wave of kids were waiting for him, buckets and pillow cases ready.

“Trick or treat!”
