Chapter 14

“You’re on a break, Jules. Eat your lunch and check it out later. I bet the construction workers are on their lunch break too.”

She was right. Jules didn’t know if he could eat, though. All he wanted was to run home and hug Booksy. It was only Monday, how would he survive the week if there were going to be carpenters running around his workspace. Where would he do his reading with the children?

He put his plate on a table and went down the corridor toward the offices. Mrs. Garcia was on her way out, and Jules expected the eye roll before it happened.

“Mrs. Garcia, Jenny told me there are construction workers in my section.”

“Yes, Mr. Rose. You, like everyone else, were informed at the last staff meeting.”

“Yes, but not about when, and you haven’t consulted with me about what I want.” His heart was drumming hard, and he feared he’d be sick, but this was his workplace. He should have been informed.
