“Why don’t you rearrange? Put the pillows in a circle in the corner and move the books over there?” Nix motioned at the place where Jules said he usually read to the kids. “And you can fill the dark walls with pictures they’ve made.”
Jules tilted his head to the side, a small smile stretching his lips. “No one will see your paintwork.”
Nix shrugged. “I don’t care. We were hired to paint some walls, we’re done, now you do with it what you want.”
“Thanks.” Jules reached out and touched his arm, and Nix’s world stopped.
“Anytime.” He looked into Jules’ eyes for a long time, only realizing he was doing so when Logan cleared his throat.
“You ready to go, Nix?” He looked between them with a blank face. Nix wanted to growl at him, but Jules was already moving away.
“Talk to you later.” He took a step in Jules’ direction, unwilling to allow him to increase the distance between them.
“Yes, have a nice evening.” Jules nodded and pushed the cart toward the shelves.
