Chapter 18

“Sherille. Great to see you!” And it was, actually, even though they hadn’t known each other well in high school. Meredith stopped short of saying, “How are you?” You’d think a nurse would be more comfortable with someone who’s been very ill.But this wasn’t one of her geriatric patients. This was someone her age, who clearly had been through chemo, judging from her very short hair.

“So glad you came, Meredith. You and Jen always were a good team. We all needed our lives shook up a little, I think. How’ve you been?”

Meredith was in no mood to whine about her life under the circumstances. “Just fine, Sher. It’s all good. The music’s about to start. Are you going to sing for us?” She remembered Sherille from the class play that she herself hadn’t been chosen for. She’d done an amazing job in the lead role and could have made a living as a singer.
