The Railwalkers

Violet wasted no time and jumped onto the deputy while he lay dazed. Violet tugged on the gun, but the lawman had just enough sense to keep a tight grip on the handle. Foggy eyed and bleeding, he grabbed the roots of her hair and pulled. Violet let out a yelp of pain, but did not relent. Instead, she dove down and sunk her teeth into the man’s arm.


“Aurgha!” Finally, his fingers relinquished the pistol, and Violet took it herself. With both hands, she pointed the gun directly at him, but after a split second of thought, brought the butt of the revolver to his face instead. It struck painfully, and his eyes rolled to the back of his head as he passed out cold.
