“I guess I am,” Jesse conceded. Silver Ridgefilmed in upstate New York, after all. He wondered why Jack would choose to spend his downtime in another sleepy town rather than LA or Manhattan. “Not that you have to tell me your personal business or anything.”

“It’s no big deal,” Jack said with a shrug. “I trust you.”

It was a big deal, Jesse thought to himself. For all Jack knew, Jesse was preparing to shop around news outlets for the biggest check. Not that he would, of course, but he did not take the weight of Jack’s faith in him lightly.

“My Aunt Janet died recently,” Jack said. “And my Aunt Cora, her wife, she’s not taking it well. It wasn’t a shock, she’d been sick for a long time, but they were together for thirty years, you know? It’s a big adjustment.”
