Chapter 15

Andrew wasn’t childish. He wasn’t a student. He was an adult, and he was smart, and funny, and Levi enjoyed his company. He missed him. Missed him enough to make reservations at Masa’s Restaurant. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make them for that night because he was a lowly poli-sci professor, and didn’t know anybody. He just hoped Andrew would be impressed when Levi went by his apartment to extend the invitation.

He had been to Andrew’s apartment once before. But it was different this time, because when he knocked on the door, he had no idea what would greet him. Would Andrew be happy to see him? Or was this thing between them—whatever it was—over?

Music pounded from the neighbor, but it didn’t block out the, “Coming!” from inside Andrew’s. The knob twitched, as if somebody had grasped it on the inside, but the door didn’t swing open right away.

Levi looked straight at the peephole. He might not know what to expect, but he wasn’t going to look like a coward about it.
