Chapter 4

The laugh bubbled out of Kace.

“I do! I’m gonna prove it to you.”

“Sure, sure…” A lightness filled Kace’s chest. He wished they could be like this forever—laughing. Together

Luke’s phone rang. He grabbed it and walked out the door. Kace suspected it was Stacy and went to take over the cooking. Judging by what Lukas had put on the counter, he guessed he’d been about to make scrambled eggs.

A few minutes later, Lukas came back in again. “It was the estate agent, she had to postpone.”

“Good.” Kace grabbed an egg.

“Good?”

“Yeah, gives you time to pull out of the deal and patch things up with Stacy.” His words formed a knot in his belly.

Luke stared at him. “I’m buying the cabin.”

“Luke—”

“No, we need it.”

We? He and Stacy?“Luke, think this through.”

“I already have. I’m gonna prove to you that I’ve changed.”

“Changed? Why do you need to change?” Kace didn’t want him to change. He wanted Luke to be like he’d always been.
