Chapter 7

“No.”

“But she thinks we’vebeen having an affair.”

Luke sighed. “Right from the start, she was jealous of you—” Kace huffed, but Luke kept on talking. “—I guess she noticed something. In the beginning, she didn’t want us to hang out, then she got more and more annoyed every time I saw you. When you dropped by—” Luke rolled his eyes. “I tried to be what she wanted, but I couldn’t keep living like that, Kace. I loved Stacy, in the beginning, I really did, but I have to have you in my life or I’m…not complete.” He flattened his hand over his chest.

Kace stared.

“Yeah, but she thinks—”

“Who cares what she thinks?” Luke threw his hands in the air.

“I do. I don’t want people to think I’m sleeping around with married men.”

“We’re not married.”

Kace blinked. He’d been sure the word following we’re not would be sleeping together. “Luke!”

He sighed and waved a hand.

“No, don’t be so fucking blasé. I don’t want to be dragged into your shit!”
