Chapter 25

“I’m glad you changed your mind,” Lou told him.

“I am too. We make a good pair, in and out of bed.” He came back to the table. “Right now, though, I have to get a move on. I need to report to Gideon and change clothes. I’ll be back by eleven.” For a brief second he considered giving Lou a kiss, then decided they weren’t even close to that kind of intimacy. Sleeping together was one thing. Kissing would take it to a whole new level. Not that it would be bad, but now is not the time to go there.

“Drive safely,” Lou told him.

“That is a true cop statement,” Rory replied with a grin. “I will.”

Twenty minutes later he was at the ART, filling Gideon in on the previous evening.

“You’re certain he wasn’t there at some point,” Gideon asked when Rory finished.

“As certain as I can be. We all are, although Clay did have a point. There were times when it was crowded enough that we could have missed him, if he was being careful not to stand out in any way.”
