The week both dragged and flew by. Keely painted as busily as did Tim and Jerry. They finished the exterior walls and got ready to do the trim, while she completed two more working men canvasses. One more week would have the job done, they said. Her spirits dipped at that news, but she refused to let herself become depressed. She’d have one more weekend at least. They’d already mentioned another three-way date. They’d go to a concert at the college in Copper City by an aging but well-known rock group with a regional band opening for them. No dancing, but some great listening, and Jerry suggested dinner before the show at a local steak house with a statewide reputation.
Mrs. Donaldson had come by on Thursday to view the work and was so impressed she gave the two painters a bonus on the spot. She also swore she’d recommend them to some friends who needed work done and bet they would get enough jobs to keep them busy until New Year’s.
