“Yes, of course,” he replied, swallowing hard.

He turned to leave, glancing once more at Adam’s sleeping form, struck with the unsettling sensation of staring into the past. A past, doomed to repeat, helpless to stop it happening. Ian hurried from the room, the overwhelming sensation of déjà vuwashing over him as he fled.

Adam struggled to open his eyes, slow to awaken. As if he were clawing his way out of a black hole, blinking into the light. He groaned and fell back onto the pillow behind him, then became aware of the hand pushing back and holding him to the bed.

“Now, now,” a soft feminine voice purred. “Don’t move, darling.”
