Chapter 19

“What is it like living in your part of the world?” asked Sandro. “Is it cold now where you live?”

“Yes, Michigan is very cold now. I’m an EMT, so I’m out in all kinds of weather driving an ambulance.”

“Wow, and to think I’m complaining about having to learn a lot of new lines,” said Sandro. “You’re saving lives every day, out in the cold, no less.”

“Well, not always saving lives. Sometimes just taking people to the hospital.” He told Sandro a little about the rescue that had brought him the reward money for his trip.

“Well, there’s one guy whose life you saved, no arguing that. Me, I just rehearse all afternoon. Sometimes the lines change a little. Sometimes I have to play different roles, learn new lines. We’re a tight group. We sometimes go out to socialize together. But not right now. Not with the floods. In fact, the play has been canceled for now, until the floods are over. You saw it on what will be our last night for a while. Another glass of wine?”
