“I should go,” he said to Adrian, reluctantly. “I’ve got an early start tomorrow. I didn’t get anything done yesterday at all.”
Adrian grinned at him. “Why was that?” he said.
Percy grinned back. “Too knackered,” he admitted.
Adrian laughed. “I was very pleased I could lie in,” he confided. “I wasn’t good for much.” He turned his glass round and round in the rings of condensation on the table before them.
“Can I see you again?” he asked, quietly, not looking at Percy as Percy stood up.
Percy stilled. He swallowed. Perhaps it hadbeen a date, after all. “Of course,” said, equally quietly. “I’d like that. I’d like that a lot.”
“I’m free Wednesday,” Adrian said, looking up at him with more of his usual quiet confidence. “What about a drink after work and something to eat?”
“That sounds good,” Percy said. “Really good.”
“I’ll meet you outside work, yes?” Adrian said. “I can get off about five, I think.”
