“We’re gonna need a cook stove. Besides, I want to try and take care of a problem. Come on. You’ll see.”
Timo was working the hammer when we came through the doors. He gave us a big smile. “Do something for you?”
“We decided to rebuild Otter’s cabin, so we’re gonna need a stove.”
“You can forge anything I can.”
“Except a stove. That might be more’n I can handle. And a water pump. The murderers stole that too.”
We agreed on a price before I undertook what I’d come to do. “Also wanted to say thanks for your help when we needed it a while back. And…to say we can’t do what we did that day anymore.”
The burly man blushed like a young swain as his eyes slid to Matthew. “Oh. That’s all right. Appreciated when…well, uh.”
“But I was thinking. You know Andre Tiller, don’t you?”
“Don’t see him too much, but he’s a pleasant fella.”
“Handsome too. It strikes me he’s in his prime and has needs. But he doesn’t have a woman, either.”
