Chapter 3

Even so, all the answers were fuzzy and distant. His world didn’t sharpen again until he slid the card key into the lock and pushed the door open. He had never rented a hotel room for a short visit in the middle of the day. And the last time he had fucked a man, he had been twenty, and he couldn’t even remember if things had gone well or if he had made a bunch of stupid mistakes. As soon as the door clicked shut behind them, panic clutched him.

Calm down. So what if the sex is awful? So what if you make a fool of yourself, or he never wants to see you again? All this will be over tomorrow morning. You won’t have to live with these regrets, too.

“I can do this,” James muttered.

“What was that?”

James smiled. “Nothing. I…how do you want to do this?”

“The old-fashioned way is fine with me. Unless you know of some newfangled option?”
