Chapter 27

He came on the third pull.

“Is that why you’re seriously considering being my familiar?” Alec asked softly. “Because you want to try for your own life?”

“Partly,” he admitted. Daring to open his eyes, he discovered warmth and friendliness in Alec’s blue gaze rather than the mocking humor he’d expected. “But part of it really is because this is what I am. This is what I was born to be. If I’m not yours, I’m not likely to ever satisfy that side of who I am. It seems like win-win all the way around.” He tried a smile. It was easier now that he was being honest. “Provided we don’t annoy each other to death first.”

Alec smiled back and sank into the cushion again. His eyelids were getting droopy. “You won’t be able to say it like that if we go back to Miami together.”

“Like what?”

“That you’re mine. People will think we’re dating.”
