“I am right,” Rowan said. “Dad confirmed it.” At Alec’s confusion, he elaborated. “Martin let me run the gift upstairs so Dad could give it a sniff. I didn’t tell him why. I wanted to see if it triggered anything. He’s the one who matched it to the guy who attacked him, so if you don’t want to believe my nose, go ask the man who got up close and personal with it.”

Rowan’s cold tone was nothing compared to the distance in his eyes. Paired with the knowledge Alec didn’t dare question Graham’s assessment as well as the inevitability of the truth about Zander, Alec felt two inches tall. He glanced at Will. His lack of surprise proved he’d been there when Rowan had come and asked for the present.

Alec slumped in the chair. “Was he able to tell you what the chemical is?”

Rowan hesitated, eyes narrowing for a moment as he stared at Alec. “No.”
