As scared as he was for Mom, he couldn’t stop the little thrill of pride that Will had wasted no time finding an advantage. For all the turmoil that might be between them, Will was sticking to his word. He would protect the pair of them, no matter what.

Ortiz let the blinds close again with a snap and moved beyond the exposure of the window to stand at the back of the room. Unmuting the phone, he said, “You’re bluffing.”
