Chapter 13

“Because you’ve stolen me from my home.”

He had.

Carlo blinked into the darkness. There was a rustle of someone moving around. “Zen?” Why he whispered, he didn’t know.

“Yes.”

“Oh, it’s you.” He blew out a sigh of relief. He shouldn’t be relieved since Zen was the one who’d stolen him from Earth and knocked him unconscious, but on some level he trusted him. Perhaps he could blame the concussion.

“Yes.”

“Is it time to get up?” He felt better, and he wanted to check on Grace.

“I need to work.”

“Okay. Should I come with you?” He sat, relaxing when the room didn’t spin around him. “Can we turn on the light?”

Harsh light pierced his eyes, and he hissed. “Can we dim the light?”

The room went dark again. “There’s a small lamp by the bed.”
