She blinked in surprise. “You do?”

“Indeed. As you pointed out, I did not put in enough effort. There’s no denying it.”

“If you think an apology will change my mind, you’re mistaken.”

“Hardly.” Marcus walked over to one of the statues of Penelopia. She was nearly as tall as him. Her expression was fearful, and she appeared to be screaming. He touched the statue’s reaching hand. “I was hoping we could let the goddess resolve this matter.”

“How?” Aella asked, suddenly sounding much less infuriated.

“If she has use of me, she would let us know, wouldn’t she?”

“And how do you intend to ask her?” Circe asked.

He shrugged. “You would know better than I, wouldn’t you? Especially considering my shoddy attendance.”

Aella nodded. “There would be no harm in asking her for guidance here.”
