“So, what do you want,” I asked. “Truth or dare?”

“Uhm…truth,” he said in his gravelly accent.

“Okay.” I sighed, wondering how to kick things off. “Who was the first person you kissed?”

“My mother.”

“Otherthan your mother!”

“Pass.”

“You can’t fucking pass on the first question!”

“I’m passing, wanker.”

“Fine. Drink up.” An ounce of alcohol disappeared; a sour grimace appeared on his shadowed face. “Why didn’t you want to answer?” I posed after his features settled.

He gave me a calculated look. “Never you mind, Theodore. You’re up—truth or dare?”

“Ah…truth.”

“Why d’you dump Scott?” He clearly had that question at the ready.

It was my turn to give him a look. “Who put you up to this? Mindy?”

“Are you gonna answer the bloody question, or are you gonna drink?”

“Oh, I’ll answer. We were sexually incompatible.”

“What does that mean? I thought you gays just decided who focks whom, then Bob’s your uncle?”
