Chapter 14

“Mmm, Zakarias.”

I brush my thumb over the soft skin on his belly. Spread my fingers in an attempt to feel allof him underneath my palm.

“Zakarias?” He sounds a little more awake, at least enough to realize we haven’t lain like this in forever.

“I’m here,” I whisper. “Go back to sleep, you need it.”

He rests his hand on top of mine. “You’re here,” he mumbles. The rhythmic rise and fall of his breathing stutters to a halt, then he twists around until he’s facing me, forcing his eyes open. “Zakarias?”

I lean my forehead against his. “I got my test results back.”

“Yeah?”

“Yes.”

He hooks his leg over mine and lays a soft palm on my neck as his eyelids fall closed again. “Kiss me.”

I bump my nose against his as I slide my hand across his waist, to his back, and splay my fingers, pressing him closer. I kiss the tip of his nose. His eyebrow. His temple, his cheek, in front of his ear. For every light brush of my lips, he hums and melts under my touch.
