“Any exciting plans for tomorrow evening?”
There was a buzz in Tom’s ears. He stroked his beard in an attempt to hide that he couldn’t find his voice straight away. “I’m…erm…Jason, Aiden’s friend, is staying at my place.”
“Ah, a romantic dinner for two.” Jen winked and reached for an apple before putting it in her basket.
The ground shifted under Tom’s feet, and he had to swallow not to have his stomach turning inside out right there in the shop.
“So, what are you cooking?”
“Erm…I was thinking about venison.”
“Sounds lovely.”
Tom’s lungs had ceased cooperating, and he could hardly get a sound out. “Would you…would you like to come?” He was amazed Jen was able to pick up on what he’d said.
