Chapter 5

“My parents separated when I turned fifteen. I moved west to Phoenix with my mother. My father went to Palm Beach. My mom has a sister who lives right down the street from her. I rent a flat near the university.”

“So you’re not sticking around here in the city for long, are you? You’ll help your uncle through his surgery and you’ll head west again? The city isn’t for you?”

“Depends what I could stick to while I’m here, and if it’s worth staying or not. The city isn’t a bad place to live. I can get used to it.” His comments don’t come across as flirtatious, ambiguous, or as sexual innuendos. I’m really not sure what he’s saying, but I’m open for wherever our conversation goes, or whatever they do or don’t hint to, mostly because I’m high and because the cheap beer tastes good.
