Chapter 3

He looked downright evil. “No, I really do want a membership in that particular club, but this time my purpose was to distract you. And it worked.”

“Tom?”

I jerked awake. My neck ached, my back ached, my bum ached. These seats simply weren’t built for anyone over six feet. It was the most spacious plane I’d seen, but it didn’t help. “What?”

“Come on.”

I blinked bleary-eyed at him, not understanding what he wanted me to do.

“Come with me.” Santino tugged at my sleeve.

Most of our co-travellers were sleeping. “What are you doing?”

“Don’t hiss. Just come with me.”

We managed to climb over the other passengers and get to the aisle without jostling them too much out of their slumber. Santino laced our fingers together and pulled me down the middle passage of the plane.

“Where are we going?” I bent to whisper in his ear, not wanting to disturb anyone more than necessary.

“The lavatory is vacant.”

“So?”

“Mile high.” He flapped his free hand as he tugged me along.
