He’s overheard what she tells his mother— “So resistant at first,” which he was. He was bitter and angry and hated therapy, hated the fact that he needed it, and the first few weeks out of the hospital, they had to use machines to work his legs, he refused to do it himself. “You need a little time,” the therapist tells him now, holding his feet as he struggles to pull himself into a sit-up.
