Chapter 2 - Alexia

Time for school. Finally.

For the first day, I decided to wear an olive shirt, some short jeans, and white Adidas. I put on my owl earrings and the anchor necklace. I took my school bag and left.

I got to school, and unfortunately, Vanessa saw me immediately.

"Alexia! Come here!" she yelled from across the street.

I calmly crossed the road, without getting squashed, and walked towards Vanessa. Without even saying hi, she asked me for her class schedule.

"The school should have mailed it to you," I said, "Do you have it?"

"Of course I have it! But I'm too busy to read it!" she snapped. Then she looked into her bag and pulled out a piece of paper, "Here," she said.

I pulled it my own and looked at them both.

OMG! I couldn't believe it! I only had three classes with Vanessa! This will be the best school year

ever!

"We both have English right now," I said "This way." I started walking, me in front (for once) and Vanessa behind me.

We got to the English room and opened the door. A couple of students were already there, either talking to each other or listening to music, but I suspected that the rest of our classmates were still outside. The room was particularly large, so there were three long rows of desks. Two seats were free in the back row, so we decided to sit there.

As I pulled out my pen and a notebook, I looked around, trying to remember the faces of my classmates.

Her name is... Sarah? Wasn't she in third grade with me? And he's...um...oh, yeah! He was the one who's really weird about recycling! Um... John! And...'

"Alexia, where is my pen?" Vanessa asked.

"Sorry Vanessa, I don't -" I froze, seeing him walk in.

That guy. That handsome, beautiful guy. What is he doing here? Does he go to the same school? Hewasn't here last year though... Maybe he's an exchange student? From where? Hawaii?

Loads of questions raced into my mind. When he finally spotted me, he smiled, then waved. A

warm feeling surged through my body as those sea-green eyes met mine. "Hey, Alexia!" he called. He walked towards me, and when he was close enough, I opened my mouth to answer him. Before I could, Vanessa spoke "Hi there! I remember you! But, unfortunately, we didn't geta chance to talk. What's your name?"

"Lucas. Lucas Jackson."

Lucas Jackson, I repeated in my mind.

"Can I call you Luke?" Vanessa asked.

"No," he answered. When Vanessa looked at him, almost horrified, Lucas smiled.

It was so funny I giggled. Big mistake.

"What are you laughing at?" Vanessa demanded.

"Well... I... I was just..." I mumbled.

"It seems pretty easy to me," Lucas interrupted "Alexia thought I was funny, and laughed."

"Yes... but..." Vanessa stammered.

Our teacher came in just as the bell rang.

"Whatever," Vanessa said, as she sat down on her chair.

Saved by the bell, I thought.

"Can everyone just sit down please?" our teacher asked. After a short pause, she said, "Welcomeback to school. I am Mrs. Depree, your English teacher. Before we start I would like to introduce,if you haven't already met him, a new student. Please stand up, Lucas."

Lucas stood up and gave a small wave. "Hi."

"He will be staying with us until the end of the year," said Mrs. Depree. After a few 'sup's and hi's, Lucas sat back down and the teacher spoke."Let's begin."

After first period I told Vanessa to go to her Chemistry class, while I would go to Maths class.Fortunately for me, the two rooms were on the opposite sides of the school. Yay.

"But where is it!" Vanessa demanded.

"It's right there," I pointed. "Down the hall, to your right."

"Whatever," she said as she walked away.

I turned around and headed for Math class. As I was walking, I heard someone's steps closingbehind me. Before I could turn around, a familiar face popped up in front of me.

"Hey, Alexia!" Lucas said.

"Um...hi," I managed to say.

"Sorry if you thought that I was stalking you. I heard that you have Math now, so I was following youto see where the classroom was."

"It's fine, Lucas. You have Math too?" I asked, easing up a little.

"Oh, please call me Luke."

"But I thought-" I started to say.

"Just my friends call me Luke," he said as he beamed a smile at me.

Shivers ran up my spine.

"Can I see your schedule?" I asked awkwardly, just to avoid the silence.

"Yeah, sure."

I gently took the sheet out of his hands and observed it.

English: 7.30 A.M. - 8.25 A.M.

Math: 8.30 A.M. - 9.25 A.M.

Chemistry: 9.30 A.M. - 10.25 A.M.

Art: 10.30 A.M. - 11.25 A.M.

French: 11.30 A.M. - 12.25 P.M.

Lunch

Social Studies: 1.05 P.M. - 2.00 P.M.

P.E. : 2.05 P.M. - 3.00 P.M.

"So, what's your schedule?" he asked.

"Actually... same as yours!" I said.

"Awesome!" he said as he took his schedule back. "I can follow you forever now."

He smiled. I smiled back and blushed. We looked into each other's eyes. They were breathtaking. After a while, I realized how long we had been staring at each other. The hallway was empty, except for us.

"We should go," I said, looking away.

"Um... yeah" he said.

We then walked side by side to the Math room.
