Could be Trusted, or Couldn't be Trusted?

Samuel widened his eyes in confusion. Sure, he was a 10-year-old, but he pondered more than most adults.

"Why will you take in someone you do not know about?" Samuel asked calmly, wondering how an unknown person such as himself had no place in Private Joshua's house.

"You're not someone I don't know about… And even if I don't, I don't care." Private Joshua said. "What matters is that you are dear to me. So, I'd be more than happy to take you in."

Private Jonathan passed a huge smile to the conversation. The smile was filled with both relief and concern. To see Private Joshua willing to take the child home relieved him. However, to see how the child brood matters, it worried him.

At such a young age, why did this child have to go through something before his imagination? What was Bradley made of that his heart didn't waver to the child's screams? Bradley was not a human if he wasn't moved even a little by all of what he did to the child.
