Chapter 32

The door to the rooftop always felt like entering a safe space meant only for the two of us. Bright light rushed in as soon as Kai opened the door. We leave our troubles behind with the darkness as we step out.

“Haa... I love the wind here.”

“Yeah.”

Kai stood beside me, both of us gazing mindlessly at the hills far away. We hadn’t really talked for a few minutes now.

“Kai, have you ever had a boyfriend?”

“No.”

“What about someone you liked?”

“I liked a guy at my old place. He didn’t like that.”

He said it with almost no emotions in his voice. When I looked at him, he seemed stiff. Knowing him for a few months, I’ve realised this is when he is upset and tries to hide it. Of course there’s more, but he’ll tell me when he wants to. If he doesn’t, it’s fine as well. I’ll make better memories for him, ones that would overcome the bitter ones.

“Oh. Well, you’re here now. Hope he trips on his shoelace and plants face first in front of everyone.”
