Evelyn was on Amie's mind after mulling over her dreams the next morning. She always thought her aunt had abandoned her, but now it seemed as though there was another motive. If her aunt Evelyn felt that being associated with her would put a target on Amie's back, then it would be better to obscure her identity.
Amie longed for answers, but running around the city to hunt for anything would be too dangerous. Leaving the city with no direction or protection would be even worse. The only thing Amie could do was to focus on her work and hope a solution would appear.

Two years of working at the dress shop, and there was still no solution to the mystery of her aunt. Amie was given ample opportunity to eavesdrop on patrons' conversations while she worked at the dress shop, but none of the customers ever spoke about anything remotely interesting.
