Hopeless

Adeline spent the next few weeks with her mind trapped in a fog. At first, she would sneak into the tunnels so that she could at least see her daughter, but eventually she became too ill to go down anymore. The feeling of despair and defeat began to dominate her thoughts as she grew weaker with each passing day. By the time Jacques returned from his campaign, Adeline was too weak to get out of bed.

When Jacques returned from his trip, he was shocked at the sight of a withered Adeline. He started asking questions worriedly, "Amie! What happened? Have you been eating? Why aren't you exercising?"

Adeline replied weakly, "Nothing stays and I'm too tired now." Still wanting to rest, she closed her eyes.

Jacques didn't want to stop talking though, "We need to do something. When was the last time you've been out of bed?"

Adeline mumbled, "Not long after you left."
