But deep down, She was worried.
As they were still there talking, Joel walked into the mansion, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on Lucy and Canary.
He greeted them with a slight bow, his movements smooth and calculated.
"Good evening, Lucy. Canary," he said, his voice low and even.
Lucy nodded at him, her expression neutral, while Canary's eyes narrowed slightly as he watched Joel.
Joel seemed to sense the tension in the air, but he didn't let it deter him.
He turned to head towards the stairs, but Canary suddenly stood up, his eyes locked on Joel's back.
"Joel," Canary said, his voice firm and commanding.
Joel turned back to face him, a hint of curiosity on his face. "Yes, Canary?"
Canary's eyes blazed with intensity as he spoke. "I just wanted to thank you," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Thank you for finally revealing your true intentions towards the company. It's been...enlightening, to say the least."
Joel's expression didn't change, but a flicker of surprise danced in his eyes. He seemed to have expected Canary to be angry or upset, but instead, he was calm and collected.
"I'm glad I could clarify things for you, Canary," Joel said, his voice smooth and condescending.
"I hope you're prepared for the changes that are coming."
Canary's smile was cold and calculating. "I'm more than prepared, Joel. I'm ready for you."
Joel smirked at Canary's words, his eyes glinting with amusement.
"Whether you're ready or not, Canary, the company is already mine," he said, his voice dripping with confidence.
"You can't stop the inevitable. The shares are in my name, and soon, the entire company will be under my control."
Canary's face darkened with anger, and he clenched his fists at his sides.
Lucy noticed the tension in his body and quickly stepped forward, positioning herself between the two men.
"Canary, calm down," she said, her voice firm but gentle.
"This isn't going to solve anything."
Canary's eyes blazed with anger, but he seemed to take a deep breath and compose himself.
He unclenched his fists and took a step back, his eyes never leaving Joel's face.
"You're not going to get away with this, Joel," he said, his voice low and menacing.
"I'll fight you every step of the way. You may have the shares, but I have something you'll never have: the loyalty and respect of the employees and the community."
Joel snorted, his smirk growing wider.
"Loyalty and respect are nothing without power, Canary. And I have all the power I need. You're just a relic of the past, clinging to a dying dream. It's time to wake up and face reality."
Joel turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Canary and Lucy standing in the living room.
The tension in the air was palpable, and Lucy could feel the anger and frustration radiating from Canary.
She reached out and placed a hand on his arm, trying to calm him down.
"Canary, let's not let him get to us," she said, her voice soft and soothing. "We'll figure out a way to deal with him, together."
Canary took a deep breath and nodded, his eyes still flashing with anger. "You're right, Mom," he said, his voice tight with emotion. "I just can't believe he's doing this. He's always been jealous of our family and our success, but I never thought he'd stoop this low."
Lucy's expression was sympathetic. "I know, sweetie. Joel's always been a bit of a wild card, but we'll get through this. We'll find a way to stop him and protect our family's legacy."
Canary nodded, his jaw set in determination. "I'll do whatever it takes, Mom. I won't let Joel destroy everything we've worked for."
Lucy smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "I know you won't, Canary. You're a strong and capable person, and I have no doubt that you'll come out on top in the end."
Canary sighed and then decided to go to his bed and have some sleep.
***
The following day, Lisa was on her desk when Brian came into the office shock and exitement all over his face.
"Hey, Lisa, have you heard the latest rumor?" he asked, his voice low and conspiratorial.
Lisa raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What's going on?" she asked, her fingers pausing over the keyboard.
Brian leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper.
"I just heard that Joel is now the highest shareholder in the company. Can you believe it?"
Lisa's eyes widened in shock. "What? When did that happen?" she asked, her mind racing with questions.
Brian shrugged. "I don't know, but rumor has it that he's been secretly buying up shares for months. And now that he's got the majority, he's going to try to retain his CEO position... or maybe even become the president of the company."
Lisa's eyes met Brian's, and she could see the excitement and curiosity reflected back at her.
This was huge news, and it had the potential to shake up the entire company.
As she sat there, trying to process the implications of this rumor, Lisa couldn't help but think about Canary.
How would this affect him? Would he be able to keep his position in the company, or would Joel's newfound power push him out?
The questions swirled in her mind, and Lisa knew that she had to talk to Canary as soon as possible.
She needed to know what he knew, and what he planned to do about it.
" Excuse me !" Lisa suddenly got up and excused herself from the office.
She rushed to the washroom and quickly made a call to Canary.
"Canary, I just heard a rumor that Joel is now the highest shareholder in the company," Lisa said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Is it true?"
There was a pause on the other end of the line, and for a moment, Lisa wondered if Canary was going to deny it. But then he spoke, his voice firm and resolute.
"Yes, it's true," he said. "Joel's been secretly buying up shares for months, and now he's got the majority. But I'm not going to let him get away with it."
Lisa's heart skipped a beat as she heard the determination in Canary's voice. "What's your plan?" she asked, her curiosity getting the better of her.
" I really have nothing on mind now. I'm just hoping for the best." He said.
Lisa's mind was racing with questions, but before she could ask any of them, Canary continued.
"I need you to keep this quiet for now, Lisa ?"
Lisa didn't hesitate. " I understand dear "
Canary's voice was reassuring. "Don't worry, Lisa. I can take care of myself."
" Alright, Take care.." She said.
As soon as Lisa ended the call with Canary, she let out a sigh of relief and turned to leave the washroom.
She turned to see Regina standing in the doorway, a sly smile spreading across her face.
"Looks like you're having a pretty intense conversation," Regina said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Mind if I join you?"
She cleared her throat to say something.
