Chapter 64

For the next three weeks, the squad after Timothy and Thomas were outvoted by everyone else, had finally begun solely hunting down rank two demonic beasts. Timothy and Thomas were still against the idea just in case the other three students were unable to keep up since the deeper the squad went into the mountain range, the harder it would be for them to have the ability to not get surrounded once their battle had ended. But luckily for them, before heading into the Demonic Mountain Pass, the officer had given them some basic barrier protective runes so that they could at least keep their campground safe when they needed to retreat and rest.

During these three weeks, Timothy was obviously carrying the entire squad as their main attacker because the other students, although giving it their all, were unable to really do any real damage to rank two demonic beasts. Since they were rank three cultivators, technically one on one they would have the edge against a rank two demonic beast, but as it turned out, none of them really had a good finishing move and were more capable as slowing their foes down in battle or surrounding them with golems like Mark was using as a tactic.

Every day, the squad was able to take down at least two demonic beasts of rank two and at least eight of the first rank which meant that by the end of the third week, the squad had killed over one hundred and sixty rank one demonic beasts and over forty two rank two demonic beasts. The storage rings that Thomas were using had started to become too full and so Thomas requested that every squad member handed over their own extra storage rings to him. Storage rings were not very expensive usually unless they had an incredibly large amount of storage. Along with Timothy, the other three students each had at least five smaller spaced storage rings that they handed over to Thomas.

The group had continued their efforts and had finally begun taking on groups of rank two demonic beasts now that Alicia and Greg had both achieved the upper tier of rank three mages and now that Timothy had grown significantly as a warrior. Thanks to constantly needing to use his Flame Sword as much as possible in order to quicken the end of each battle, Timothy was finally able to just use his battle qi to achieve the same level of blows as it took him using both his battle qi and mana before. Therefore, it was leagues easier for him to deal with rank two demonic beasts now that he could use all of his battle qi up but still have his mana available to tie up any loose ends.

The first small group of rank two demonic beasts that the squad located in order to kill was a mixture of three types of demonic beasts who were sitting in the same area. One was a horse type demonic beast that seemed to specialize heavily in speed and long-range attacks, another was a snake type demonic beast that seemed to be carrying a highly toxic poison within its body, the third demonic beast present seemed to be an ogre type demonic beast, while the fourth and last one present was clearly their leader a scorpion type demonic beast.

At first the squad was not sure whether they should leave this group of demonic beasts without bothering them, or if they should test their luck against them. The horse type demonic beast according to Thomas was not very strong in general so they did not have to worry about it while the ogre type demonic beast was strong in close combat but one of Mark's golems could easily by itself hold it down long enough for the rest to be finished off. Plus, the snake type demonic beast looked to not specialize in defense which meant that as long as Timothy was quick about it, all that the squad really had to worry about was the scorpion type demonic beast.

And so without delay, Mark quickly summoned his two golems, one that landed next to the ogre in order to hold it down while the other landed on top of the snake type demonic beast since its fangs would be unable to bite through the rough stone body of the golem. At the same time, Greg summoned two water elementals which would be able to serve as protection for Alicia and Thomas as Timothy quickly leaped towards the horse type demonic beast trying to finish it off immediately. Unfortunately, the horse spit out bubbles towards Timothy as it saw him approaching that had electricity powering up them. It turned out that the horse type demonic beast most likely had both a water demonic core in its body as well as a lightning demonic core which when merged, could be used in a bubble like attack!

Thomas and Alicia were now able to combine their respective elemental techniques in order to hold back the scorpion from making a move, but if Timothy did not hurry, his squad would soon lose their current edge. In a snap decision, Timothy gave up on capturing and killing the horse type demonic beast since its speed would make it too hard for him to be able to catch up to in a short period of time and instead slashed towards the head of the snake type demonic beast that was still in a rough battle with Mark's golem. Mark was constantly taking low tier mana recovery pills since every time the snake or ogre landed a blow on his golem, it would drain his mana in making sure that the golems recovered and could continue battling.

After one more blow, the snake type demonic beast was finally slain by Timothy as he chose to attack the scorpion type demonic beast. Thomas and Alicia had tried their best, but the scorpion type demonic beast was far too well rounded and continued finding its way out of their binding techniques. But with the snake type demonic beast now dead, both of Mark's golems were able to work together in overpowering the ogre which they were close to killing it themselves without the help of anyone else in the squad assisting.

Greg's water elementals were able to use what could only be compared to a quicksand type attack to halt the horse demonic beast's movements so that it could be dealt with last, but otherwise the only remaining demonic beast that the squad needed to kill was in fact the scorpion type demonic beast. Timothy instead of trying to out speed the scorpion, instead took it head on by pouring all of his strength into his Flame Sword. The scorpion was a very defensive type demonic beast that had a shell which was extremely thick and hard to cut through, so all that Timothy could do was pinpoint a weak location on its shell in an effort to eventually break through it.

After ten minutes of exchanging blows with the scorpion, Timothy realized that the ogre demonic beast was killed and after assisting Greg's water elementals in killing the horse type demonic beast, the entire squad now was capable of focusing solely on the scorpion which was still as strong as ever. The scorpion had landed several blows onto Timothy's body, but luckily after battling against poisonous demonic beasts for so many months, Timothy was immune to the scorpion's own poison which was not something the demonic beast normally specialized in anyways. Now being overwhelmed by two water elementals, two golems, Timothy's offensive barrage, and Thomas and Alicia's binding techniques, the scorpion was finally unable to continue fighting and was slain.
