"What are you doing here?" Zimba asked, surprising even herself because of the level of authority in her voice.
"Oh, sorry," The man quickly stood up stuffing items into his pockets, "I was just finishing up with fixing the-" his eyes scanned the room and then he dashed out.
Zimba thought it was weird but she didn't let her mind think on the matter for more than a second after he had left.
She stepped into the shower and turned on the tap. The cold water rushed down on her body, relaxing her muscles. She never liked taking cold showers but today was like one of those few days when she needed them.
Her mind went to her parents, growing up she was always a troublesome child. She had received many warnings from her parents and she was foolish to think that they would never actually get rid of her.
She didn't blame them.
After standing in the shower for another five minutes she stepped out. The room was already filled with everything she needed so it didn't take long for her to change into the new clothes.
Her bra was too small but it wasn't uncomfortable. She waved to Tanya as she walked out of the shop and the woman smiled back.
"Tanya isn't as bad as she seems." The driver said as he stood by the passenger seat holding the door open for her.
"I know." Zimba replied.
"You'll love working with her." He said when he was finally seated.
Zimba didn't ask the details.
"What's your name?" Zimba asked a little embarrassed that she had just used this man's money and she didn't even know his name.
"Sililo." He answered, "I already know yours."
She wasn't surprised.
"So what's he like, your boss?"
"Fair." It wasn't the answer she hoped for but it was good enough. For now.
"Where are we going, his house?"
Sililo laughed a little.
"Headquarters."
Zimba kept quiet the whole way. She kept imagining what their first meeting would be like.
**
Headquarters was a tiny old house and not the mansion that Zimba had hoped for. Sililo knocked five times, twice with his right.
"Come in." A woman called from inside.
The door was opened only a little so they had to squeeze through the tiny space in order to get in.
"I knew I could trust you with this." The same woman said to Sililo once they were inside.
"Where is Mwape?" Sililo asked the tall woman in front of them.
"If doing just fine, thanks for asking." She hissed and marched to another room, her heels echoing in the almost empty room.
"I'll be right back." Sililo sighed and followed her.
Zimba took a seat next to the door and waited. Was he here? Is he Mwape?
"He found you." A man said she hadn't noticed him coming into the room, not even when he came to stand right in front of her.
"Hi." She said with a shaky voice.
"Hello, I'm Mwape." The man wasn't as tall as she remembered her mystery man being.
"Do you know me?" Zimba asked, causing Mwape to raise an eyebrow.
"I've heard about you." Her heart dropped, he wasn't the one.
She wasn't that sad because he wasn't her type. She didn't find him attractive and from the way he looked at her she knew that he felt the same way.
She was probably the ugliest person he had ever seen.
"Where is he?" She whispered.
"Who, Sililo?" Mwepe put both hands in his pockets and rocked on his feet.
"No, the man who loves pink." Mwepe stopped his movements and sat down next to her.
"You mean our boss. He's not here but he has an offer for you." Mwepe said and Zimba leaned forward.
"Please tell me." Mwepe smiled.
"It's my job to do so you don't have to beg me to do it." Zimba leaned back in her chair in relief.
"What does he want with me?"
"He's offering you a job and a place to stay if you do this one job for him."
Abort the baby, Zimba thought.
"What?" Her voice was far away.
"You are well known in all the clubs here and you know everyone and how things are done in every club, is that correct?"
Zimba nodded her head.
"That's why you are the best person to get this job done. Here." He handed her four files.
"What's all this?"
"This contains all the information you need to find this person. I wasn't told who it is you are going to look for so it's confidential."
Zimba played with the files, they were heavy. Was this man obsessed so much with this person that he compiled all this information about them and hired her to find them?
What did this person do? What relationship do they share with the pink man? Maybe when she finds them she can ask them about him and maybe she will find the information she needs.
"I'll do it."
Mwepe stood up, his body fueled with excitement.
"I'll take you to your room."
She was going to stay here!?. She faked a smile and followed him. Damn, she should have asked where she was going to stay before she even agreed to say yes.
It was too late now, the door to her room was already open and waiting to welcome her. Once she entered the room, Mwepe locked the door and stepped closer to her with a violent look in his face.
"If you try to run away, give our location to a stranger and only tell anyone about this. I'm going to personally kill you." He took out a knife, grabbed her hand and placed it on her shaky palm.
"Welcome to the night twigs."
Zimba swallowed hard. She couldn't believe it, she was now part of a mafia.
