I Don't Want to Know His Past

"My Lord..."

Leonard, who was constantly driving this carriage and was behind me, looked like he wanted to say something. But even so, he just kept calling me, not saying anything.

"Oh, I know."

I understood what he was trying to say, even before he knew what I was thinking right now.

"My Lord..."

"I told you, I know that."

"Sorry for my rudeness."

"Does not matter."

Thirty minutes ago, when I was about to wake Qiby and Hiyori who were sleeping there, I felt something in the clothes Qiby was wearing. I touched her clothes, but when I just touched them, I felt something strange. I felt like I first touched the Crystal Ball, which was on the 2nd floor of the Adventurer's Guild.

As a result of that, I was contemplating and thinking about many things, especially about what happened to her.

I was accompanied by Leonard, but he could only say, "My Lord", "Sorry for my rudeness", "Have I been a good servant to you", and, "I, Leonard Valkoinen, will continue to serve you faithfully", and it doesn't help anything.

"My Lord..."

Look, he's like that again.

"I know it."

"My Lord..."

Because he was so annoying, I turned my body to face him, then quietly burned a cigarette, and looked at the stars that shone tonight even if only from outside the window.

"Very beautiful..."

I can't lie how beautiful the sight I saw was. The stars in the sky were so bright, they were even able to give color to the dark sky. This was very rare for me to find in my previous world, so that's why I was so happy to see the stars in the sky.

"You are indeed beautiful, My Lord."

He spoke, even though I did not invite him to speak. He responded to my words, and worst of all, he complimented me.

"Hey Leonard, can you stop that? Even though you have been adopted as part of my family, you can still call my name. You can call me Ryuki, just like Hiyori."

"That can't be, O My Lord."

"What is your reason?"

"I am only a servant, whereas you are the master and head of my family. Besides, it was you who saved my life. Without you, I would probably continue to sleep forever. So I can't be rude to you. After all, you are the master and head of my family."

"..."

I'd like to say that the reasoning doesn't satisfy me, but because I respect his opinion, I don't say that, choosing to shut up and smoke a cigarette.

I don't know the reason why I was able to save him, but I do know that he thinks I'm the one who saved his life. So even if I asked why I was able to save him, it was pointless, because I didn't want to know the reason why he was there, when Fred and I first found him.

As a human, I also have fear. I didn't want to ask why he was there and fell asleep because I was afraid, afraid that danger would befall Hiyori.

I'm sure his past was bleak and dark, maybe even crueler than mine. Hiyori and some of the people who saw him thought he was a "demon". The demon race is the most powerful in this world; written in the book I read a few days ago. And to make matters worse, the ones who dominate almost the entire contents of this world are the demon race, creatures that can be said to be "bad".

Therefore, I don't want to know about Leonard's past, even though he is part of my family; and I am fully responsible for what he does.

Honestly, it's tough. This world from my previous world was very different. In the world, there were creatures more dangerous than "humans", obviously very different from my previous world.

I only have experience from a few wars, wars against thousands of greedy and selfish humans. I'm not sure that my abilities are greater than the creatures in this world. Also, I'm not sure that this self of me will be of any use to this world. So, I will choose the safest way first, and won't choose the way that will endanger my life or Hiyori or Leonard's.

Therefore, if I were to confront one of the demons in this world, I would probably choose the safest way, which is to escape.

It's up to you what you want to say, cowardly or whatever, but I'll still choose the safest way.

I still need information and how strong I can survive and fight in this world. For now, the safe way is what I can choose. Of course, if I already know all that, my abilities, or anything else, I will slowly move on to other ways. One day, I will be able to ask about his past, Leonard Valkoinen, the only member of my family.

But before that, I still have work to do. I still have to deal with Qiby, a girl who asked me to find her sister named Zecira, who stole the heirlooms because the lizardmen ordered her.

I noticed something strange about the clothes she was wearing when I wanted to cover her with this blanket. Somehow when I accidentally touched it, I felt a surge of energy, whether it was magic energy or something else. I sensed that, but I still doubted that her request was a bit odd. I still can't say it's an oddity because I just feel something strange about the clothes. Therefore, for the time being, I will try to figure out a few things first.

Right now, our destination is Tataga City, a city that was hit by a violent storm that Hiyori said was caused by the Wind Dragon, Ventafy.

Well, even though some parts of the city were damaged and destroyed, the city was still inhabited. Qiby said that parts of the city, which were not affected by the violent storm, were still inhabited by living creatures and became evacuation sites.

And my hunch is that in that city there will be noble families, just like in Utoto City; there's Daniel de Jansen and Irine de Jansen. Therefore, naturally, I don't want to deal with them when I get there.

Wait! I'm conspicuous, aren't I? Look, this horse carriage, so flashy, will cause trouble later that I will deal with that noble family over there. But what can you do? If they're jealous that they can't have this cool horse carriage, I'll just leave them alone. I will accept any feeling of malice directed at me for not being able to own this cool horse-drawn carriage. Geez.

"We'll be there in a minute, My Lord."

He ended up saying something different, even though there were still the words "My Lord". But it doesn't matter, because he's been trying to take me to the city.

"Good."

As per Hiyori, this horse carriage would reach there at night. It was likely that by now when viewed from the stars so bright that they lit up this world, it was already 1 am. And up until now, only Hiyori and Qiby had slept, while Leonard and I had not.

Maybe there, I'll find an inn for me to rest. But before that, of course, I will look for food first. I haven't eaten at all, only breakfast this morning. I have given my lunch to Hiyori, while my dinner I have given to Qiby. Therefore, on this trip, I endured my hunger and only filled my body with cigarette smoke.

"Looks like there's no one on guard there."

Leonard said something, and I immediately checked what he said.

In front of the fence, the entrance to the city, there was no one on guard. The entrance has some damage, even I can see a big crack in the door. The road too, the road that was being horse-drawn carriage was also damaged. There are so many holes that hinder the wheels of this horse carriage, but this carriage is still able to run well so it doesn't disturb Hiyori and Qiby who are still fast asleep behind me, in the carriage of this horse carriage.

Even so, there is no guard at the entrance of the city, which is something that I think could endanger the city. However, if no one was on guard there, dangerous creatures would enter the city. And worse, maybe these creatures will damage and kill the residents who live there. Therefore, I consider that this city is bad in terms of security and care for the residents who live there.

"Are they still busy?"

Leonard knew what had happened to the city. He was probably eavesdropping on our conversation about what the city was ravaging about, the hurricane. Therefore, he asked that.

"Yeah, such a possibility. However, even though the city's condition had not improved, they seemed to be careless about security. They had at least 1 guard to guard the entrance to the city, but this didn't. They let their guard down, allowing dangerous creatures to get in there."

"You're right, My Lord. Although there are repairs in several parts of the destroyed city, those in authority must put the safety of the residents first. Humans are like that… from the beginning."

I can only see it from here, paying attention to his words.

Leonard seemed to know that the party holding authority in the city was careless about security. He must have thought that it was a basic human attitude to put their business ahead of the safety of others. He knows, but he doesn't want to share his opinion with me, and I can only guess what's on his mind.

"We have arrived at Tataga City, O My Lord."

With that said, the horse carriage entered the city.
