Chapter three Sarcasm

A/N

Hi there my lovely readers, now before I go any further I need to tell you that Tyler who is my main character has a strange illness, I don't know if it exists anywhere in the world and I don't want to offend anyone so please bear in mind that this only comes from my imagination, so keep an open mind, thank you.

It was nine am the following morning and I was in the locker room getting my things ready to go home when Martin walk in. "Hi T.J." He greets me dryly. "Hi, Martin, what's up?" I ask. "Nothing much, so, I heard that you're going to be a father again, how do you feel about that?" He asks the question without looking at me but I could still hear the sarcasm in his voice. "I feel happy, blessed, and excited," I answer with a big grin on my face because I was pretty excited or should I say overjoyed.

"Just like you were two years ago when you found out she was pregnant?" He asks his voice dripping with disgust but despite his tone, I decided to remain calm. "Yeah, you could say that," I said still smiling. "Mm so, whose idea was it to have another baby anyway?' Martin asks. "Must have been hers, because I didn't even know that she was trying, not that I'm complaining, I'm very happy for another chance to be a father."

"Yeah for now." Martin scoffed. "So, planning on taking any trips soon?" Martin asks again. "No, and just for the record, my trip to Japan did not cause her miscarriage." "Whatever you say, man, I wish you all the best." Martin scoffed again as he turn to leave but didn't get to because I step in front of him blocking his path.

"Hold up a sec, do you really think that I leaving for Japan caused Kayla's miscarriage? Is that the reason you've been so cold towards me?" I ask folding my arms across my chest. "Listen, man, as long as your conscience is clear it really doesn't matter what I think," Martin said moving around me and once again trying to leave the room but again I block him.

"Martin we have been best friends since high school, if you think I did something wrong then talk to me; for God's sake man, you've been acting like this for over two years now, aren't you tired? I am man, I'm so tired of all this, just talk to me man come on." I plead.

"Wow, you're really a piece of work you know that? But get this, you know what you did and so do I, so you can drop this innocent act alright." He said and with a nasty smirk on his face he then pushes me aside and storm out.

I grab my bag in frustration and stormed from the room and almost knock Jessica over. "Whoa! Where's the fire, In case you've forgotten you are off-duty man so you can slow down now, jeez." She said smiling but once again her smile fades as she notices that I was very upset. "What's wrong T.J?" She asks in concern. "It's been over two years and Martin is still trying to put my child's death on me, Kayla was the one who told me to go on that trip; wait no, let me rephrase that, she damn well pack my bags and shipped me off and just because she lost our baby while I was away I'm the one who gets blamed for it." I sneer in anger.

"Please calm down T J, remember what your anger does to you, now I know Kayla was angry at you at first which made no sense to me at all but seriously no one can blame you for that, you weren't even here." "You would think that right? But unfortunately, someone does." "Oh, Martin right?" "Martin and Susan to name a few," I said angrily. "Wait, they actually said that?"

"Well, I do remember Susan telling me that it was because of my selfishness why an innocent baby had to die and Martin's attitude towards me is getting colder by the day so I know that he definitely blames me also." "Alright, alright, so what about Kayla, is she still acting like a diva?" "If you mean is she still punishing me? The answer is yes and I really don't know how much more of it I can take." I said with a heavy sigh.

"Oh dear, so what are you going to do?" She asks. "Well my dear friend, I'm going to be the best husband I can be and one day I hope that Martin and I can go back to being as close as we once were," I said running my hands over my face. "In other words fix the problems you can and leave the ones you can't to God," Jessica said firmly. "Exactly, so what're you up to, aren't you going home?" I ask. "Nope, we're short staff so Jason and I have signed up for double shifts, we would have asked you to join us but after the night you've had we figured you could use the rest." "Thanks, Jessie, you always have my back, take care I'll see you guys later." "Okay drive safely." Jessica laughs punching my shoulder playfully.

On the journey home all I could think about was the fact that my beautiful fiancée was at this very moment lying in our bed waiting for me to come home so she could make up for leaving me all day yesterday, but my hopes were severely crushed when I pulled into our driveway and saw that her car wasn't there. "So much for making it up to me," I grumbled slamming my car door in frustration and heading towards the front door.

I entered the kitchen and wash my hands then check the fridge and saw that she still hadn't been to the supermarket and once again my hopes rise with the thought that the reason she wasn't home was that she had just run out to pick up a few things. With a smile on my face I took out my phone and dialed her number, she answers on the second ring. "Hi, baby, where are you?" I ask. "I had a few things to do today so I had to leave early." "Is one of those things going to the supermarket?" I ask.

"Ooops I'll try squeezing it in with the other things I have on my list." "A list? Come on baby, we were supposed to spend today together, you promised, you're not going to leave me here alone today again are you?" I ask in a hurt tone. "No I won't, I'll be there as soon as I can alright but you also have to remember that we will be getting married in a few weeks and there are still a lot of things to do." She said sweetly. "So let us do them together," I said. "Baby you've been at work all night, you're tired, just take a bath and get some rest, I'll be there soon okay." "Okay, I love you." "I love you too." "Just be home soon please." "I'll, bye."

I ended the call and was about to go take a shower when someone rang the doorbell. "Oh, man." I sighed tiredly as I went to see who it was and saw that it was my day's worker, Miss Alice. She has been working with me for the past two and a half years, technically since Kayla and I moved in together and I have a lot of respect for the woman, mostly because she looked old enough to be my mother.

I open the door and greet her with a bright smile. "Hi Miss Alice, I wasn't expecting you today, aren't you suppose to be coming to us tomorrow?" I ask motioning for her to come in. "Good morning Mr. Jackson, how are you?" "Seriously Miss Alice, how many times must I tell you, Mr. Jackson is my father, so for the last time please call me Tyler and I'm okay by the way," I said laughing. "How are you?" I ask as we walk towards the sofa. "Physically I'm fine but emotionally not so much." "What's wrong?" I ask in concern. "I'm afraid I have bad news." She said biting her lips. "Well luckily for you I'm used to bad news so lay it on me."

She took a deep shaky breath and held her head down. "I'm afraid I won't be able to work for you anymore." "Why not?" I ask in shock. "Well, to be honest, it's not you that I have a problem with, it's your fiancée. I refuse to work for her anymore, I've put up with her for as long as I can for your sake but I can't do it anymore." She said in a soft tone. "I don't understand, what happened?" "I don't want to criticize her or disrespect her in her own home, I just can't work for someone like her." "Like what Miss Alice?" "Mr. Jack… I mean Mr. Tyler."

"Close enough," I said making a face at her which made her smile. "The truth is your fiancée is a rude, insulting, cold-hearted person. She treats me like a slave, she refuses to buy the things I need to do my work properly and when I ask her about it she insults me and runs me out of her room not to mention slamming the door in my face numerous times." She said taking another deep shaky breath. She wasn't aware of the shock on my face because she wasn't looking at me.

"I didn't want to came to you and end up saying anything bad about her that would upset you because I know how much you love her, if it was only you, then I would stay because you're a very humble and respectable person and I can see that you were brought up right and I hope you'll be able to forgive me but I can't work under these conditions anymore." She said wringing her hands nervously.

"I understand, and I appreciate you coming to me and talking about this instead of just walking off the job, I had absolutely no idea any of this was going on," I replied feeling embarrassed. "No, I don't blame you; you're not responsible for her actions," she reassures me.

"Okay listen to me Miss Alice, as much as I love Kayla I can't afford to lose you, you keep this place spotless, you're an excellent cook and my white coats go through hell every day but you keep them looking as white as when I first got them." I smiled taking one of her hands and squeezing it gently.

"Miss Alice, Kay can't cook to save her life, and I've been with her for five years now and I've never seen her with a broom, bottom line is, I need you." "I know you do Mr. Tyler but I just can't tolerate this kind of treatment anymore and to make matters worse she didn't even pay me for the last time I was here." She said again with her head down. "You're kidding right?" This time she didn't miss the look of utter shock and disbelief on my face or in my voice. "No, I'm not."

I couldn't help but groan and threw my hands up in frustration. "I make it my duty to leave your money on that table whenever I know you're coming, this nonsense ends now! Because losing you isn't an option." I said running my hands over my face. "Are you busy today by any chance?" I ask. "Um. Not really." "Um…okay, are there any cleaning products in the house right now?"

"No and that's one of the reasons she didn't pay me, she said I didn't do a good job and I wasn't entitled to any money." "Wow, unbelievable, she was really giving you hell, wasn't she?" "You can say that again." She mumbled. "Well, she won't be doing that anymore, you will be treated with the respect you deserve," I said firmly.

"Now I'm going to take a quick shower, could you please make a list of everything we need both for cleaning and food-wise?" "Sure I would be happy to." "And if I promise to handle this problem will you please stay?" I ask. "I'll try, for you, I'll try." She said nodding her head. "Good then consider it handled," I said leaving the room as she began writing the list.
