All there is now is just despair

It was now Monday, the alarm on the desk blaring at 8 in the morning. Opening her eyes, Phoenix groaned at the displeasure of having to wake up early. Nonetheless, she had to wake up Sapphire, who seemed to not understand the concept of having an alarm clock wake a person up.

"Saph, wake up…we gotta get ready." Sapphire looked at her sister with widely opened eyes. "What the hell?"

"I've been awake for an hour, I got so excited I couldn't fall asleep again. I quietly packed our bags with all the things we need and then laid back down as if nothing happened." Phoenix looked at her sister as if she committed a crime, then simply shrugged her shoulders in defeat. Quickly she went inside the bathroom, took a quick shower, and washed her hair. As she got out, Sapphire went in and as Sapphire came out, Phoenix was ready.

"I really want to cut my hair, y'know? Like a bit above my shoulders."

"I think that'd look really cute."

"Well…" Phoenix began, looking at the time, "I have enough time." Phoenix grabbed two rubber bands, parting her hair in the middle and then tying it where she wanted her hair to be cut. Sapphire was in the room getting ready, glaring into the bathroom as her sister was going to now cut her hair.

"You sure about this, though? Don't regret it 1 hour from now."

"Oh please! I'll look great. I mean, mom might kill me but that's fine, I've cut my own hair before."

"Yeah, when you were 11! It was a disaster."

"From my memory, that was the best hairstyle in that school." Phoenix couldn't help but to smile, then cutting her hair to a little above her shoulders. She made sure that everything was even, ruffling it out and afterwards crying it with her diffuser. She looked in the mirror, smiling at herself. "See, I don't look bad!" Phoenix looked at her sister and then smiled, nodding her head.

"You actually look nice, I'm not going to lie."

"Well, thank you."

As they both finished getting ready, they slipped on their shoes and grabbed the bags Sapphire had packed for them. They walk downstairs, seeing their mother sitting on the couch, slipping her own shoes on.

"Are you guys ready?"

"Yes!"

"Alright lets go."

All 3 of them got in the car, Sapphire and Phoenix sitting in the backseat. Their mother began driving, stopping somewhere to get them some breakfast as they haven't eaten yet. They ate in the car, talking about the possibilities that the meeting could hold.

"You know, I was thinking about something last night," Sapphire began, biting into a biscuit. Phoenix drank her orange juice and then placed it in between her legs as she bit a huge chunk of her hashbrown.

"What?"

"Einstein's theory of relativity."

"Expand on that."

"Well, the other day we were talking about how people got to ISSAFE so quickly. We said wormholes, but we never really dug into that."

"Yeah, well…wormholes aren't really…just holes that can transport you anywhere. Speaking theoretically, it would be a blackhole and it's opposite, which is thought to be a white hole. You go through one to go out the other."

"Exactly."

"That's all?"

"Yeah…I mean we can talk about it later of course."

"Yeah."

Both the girls continues eating and finished their food, arriving at the ISSAFE headquarters. They got out, seeing someone running towards them. However, they were in too much awe admiring the aesthetic of the headquarters. So much that they almost fell backwards looking at the tall building.

"Hey guys!" a familiar voice beamed. It was Jenn, her presence being easily recognized.

"Hey Jenn," Sapphire said, blushing. They all exchanged hugs, walking in after saying goodbye to their parents.

"So, I heard that every Monday until the twenty-eighth of December we have meetings here. After that we start training on the fourth of January." Phoenix looked at Jenn as she said that, then nodding her head, opening the door and feeling the cold air hit them as they walked in.

"Makes sense. I'm pretty sure they'll devote each meeting to different portions or targets of the training, telling us what to brace for and such things."

Their footsteps echoed in the halls, and neither of them knew where to go. At that moment Sapphire pulled out the letter they send on Saturday informing them where to go and how to get there.

"It says here that once we enter we should enter the elevator and then go to the twenty-fourth flour." Sapphire began walking forward, the other girls following her. They came across the elevator, then going inside and pressing the button that read the number 24. They waited patiently for the elevator to get to the floor they needed, and once they got there, they were enveloped with darkness.

"What is going o-" Jenn began, and as she spoke, the area around them began to light up. At what seemed like the light switch where Alexander, Silas, and Dominique.

"Well hello ladies!" Alexander exclaimed. Everyone smiled at him as he brushed his hair out his face. They walk over towards them and realize that now a huge door was open with individual tables suited for 6 of them. They all look at each other and as they thought, walk in and sit down in the seats that have their names on the chairs.

It was quiet. The mood had gone from an excited group to scared and nervous kids, which they were. One of them had cleared their throats right before a woman walked in.

"Good morning, ISSAFE crew number twenty-five. I am Lieutenant General Harley Winterson, and I am pleased to inform you that I just got to Earth from ISSAFE 3 days ago. I am one of the generals of the ISSAFE station, mostly in charge of handling ship security and getting you guys on and off ships. I would also like to inform you that this meeting is highly private, and should not be talked about outside these walls unless it is between the 6 of you. We trust you enough to know that this is serious, and if you disobey these rules you will be switched out with one of the runner-up cadets."

Everyone looked at each other, replying with a simple "Yes ma'am" to show obedience to these rules. Phoenix's leg began to bounce as she got a bit anxious at the fact that someone from ISSAFE was actually here. Sapphire had followed in her behavior, the two seeming to be connected to each other.

"Today you are ISSAFE crew number twenty-five. You are no longer normal civilians of Earth. You guys are now ready to sacrifice your everything for the planet we call home." Lieutenant General Winterson had pressed a button on the table, a picture popping up behind her of a planet that resembled Earth, but it was bigger.

"I introduce you to Acantha."
