Everything will be worth it

The next couple of Mondays were nothing but speaking about what they spoke about that following meeting. The meeting where they had to run for their lives. The meeting where they learned something that regular civilians on Earth shouldn't, and the 6 kept it that way.

"Alexander, don't forget your journal," a voice said softly. Alexander turned around and saw his sister holding his journal, then also giving him a snack to take with him. He smiled at her, sitting at the table and eating the breakfast his sister prepared for him. She went to go sit in front of him, eating the same breakfast,

"So, today is your first day, huh?"

"Yeah…pretty much. It's a bit frightening, but as long as ISSAFE doesn't tell us anything, we have to keep trying to revive Earth."

"Well, I'm happy for you."

"Thank you, the same goes for you. I just hope that once you leave, I'll see you a while after."

"You can count on it." Alexander smiles at his sister and fist bumps her, then finishes his food. He places the dish in the dishwasher, then drinks water, grabs his bag, and heads to the door. As he walks out, his father was already in the car waiting for him. He got in the car, putting his seatbelt on.

"I might be a little late picking you up, do you want to meet at that little cafe on the corner and then we get something to eat there?"

"Sure!" Alexander smiled, then looked out the window as his father began to drive. The ride to the headquarters was relatively short as Alexander didn't live far away from them like the others. It was walking distance, but he didn't feel like walking, so instead his father drove him.

"So, how many more of these meetings before training begins?"

"About 3 more. It's all the way till the last Monday of December. One of the members has birthday soon, I believe."

"Oh really? Who?"

"That blonde girl. Her name is Jenn. She's really nice."

"Did you want to give her a gift?"

"No…we don't know each other like that yet." Alexander's dad smiled to himself and then turned into the parking lot of ISSAFE headquarters, letting him get out at the entrance.

"See you at the cafe!" he exclaimed, then slowly driving off, waving to Silas's mother as she drove up. As Silas opened the car door to get out, Alexander heard nothing but french words, his facial expression switching to a confused one. Silas spoke back, nodding his head and smiling, then closing the door. He walked up to Alexander and greeted him, both of them walking inside.

"I didn't know you were French," Alexander said. Silas smiled at the boy and then moved his hair out his face.

"Yeah, we moved to America when I was pretty young. I thought you could tell by the hint of accent I have."

"Barely! You sound like a pure American!" They both laugh, Alexander running his fingers through his hair. They walk into the elevator, turning around and looking out the windows.

"So, what's life like for you?" Silas suddenly asked. Alexander looked at the boy and then looked at the clouds outside.

"Well…I live with my father, older sister and younger twin sisters."

"Only boy?"

"Yeah, sort of."

"What about your mother?"

"She, uhm…wanted nothing to do with us anymore after giving birth to the twins." Silas looked over at the boy and then shifted his attitude.

"Sorry to hear that."

"Oh it's fine! My dad is a great parent. Of course he makes mistakes, but I love him, and he takes care of us and makes sure we have what we need."

"That's great, I'm glad he's there for you."

"What about you, though?"

"Well, I have an older brother. He was in the military but got discharged due to suspicious things. Don't know why but truly I don't care. My father comes and goes, really. My mother is really strict with me."

"Sounds like neither of our lives are completely perfect."

"Yeah." The two looked at each other and smiled, Alexander turning around when the elevator dinged. Silas blushed a bit and then cleared his throat, walking out and following him.

At the door they saw Dominique and Jenn talking.

"Hm? Where are the pair of sisters?"

"They said they were running late," Jenn replied, looking outside the window. She looked in her bag and pulled out her binoculars, looking. "There they go."

Phoenix and Sapphire were running into the building, shortly afterwards coming to the floor they were all on.

"I expected more from you two," Dominique joked. Sapphire laughed, Phoenix panting aggressively.

"Why were you two late?" Silas asked, giving Phoenix a hand and helping her to breathe.

"The car randomly broke down in the middle of Texton street, so we had to get out and run here," Sapphire said, spraying herself and Phoenix with some perfume. Phoenix smiled, stretching up and then taking water out her bag to drink.

"To be fair, the battery was low, and my mother had one in the trunk, but we were running late anyways so we decided to run." Silas smiled, chuckling a bit as Phoenix was still panting. She looked over at him and then punched him in the shoulder lightly, rolling her eyes.

At that moment the doors opened, allowing the students to walk in. Both the sisters sat in their seats first, slumping down and laying their heads on the table. The others sat down quietly, pulling out their notebooks. Phoenix was beginning to doze off until Alexander tapped her, then pointing on the board. Phoenix read it, her eyes widening.

The room was now dead silent. Nobody moved, nobody breathed. They all looked at each other, sitting up straight and waiting until someone walked in.

In a short span of time, a tall man came walking in. He was of older age, but still seemed fit. He looked wise, and had a beard-mustache combination.

"Hello kids. I'm General Curtis Moon, General Moon as a shorter way to say it. Today I'll be taking you on a small field trip to where your ship is. It's on the last level, I'll meet you all there." Suddenly he walked out, then all of them looked at each other agian, leaving their bags and running to the elevator. Dominique pressed the button, letting everyone in first before entering himself. Jenn pressed the button, then they all patiently waited to get there.

"We finally get to go in the ship without setting off an alarm!" Jenn exclaimed, her voice still in a whisper. She grabbed Phoenix's jacket with her left hand, not letting go until the elevator opened to let them out.

They all sped walked towards the ship, standing infront of it. This time, it wasn't standing up straight. It was flat, and it was larger than the crew expected. Half of the ship was pushed into the hole in the wall behind it, making it appear smaller. They all looked at it, their eyes filled with this sort of spark.

General Moon came from the elevator with both Lieutenant General Winterson and Major General Paris, who the crew didn't know yet. Even though it wasn't her specific thing, General Paris walked up to the kids and then when entering a code, opened the door to the space ship. Stairs came out of the floor from the space underneath the store, stretching to the floor. Rails were lifting up, and as they rightly positioned themselves, the stair edges glowed a bright blue.

"Good morning kids. I'm Major General Paris. I'm in charge of answering distress calls at ISSAFE, and today I will be giving you a tour because I wanted to! Now, I want you all to go inside." She stood there and waiting to see who would go in first, and to her surprise it was Phoenix. Phoenix stepped on the stair, then looking inside the space ship. She smiled to herself and went in, stepping foot on the hard floor of it.

The smell of new metal hit her nose, and she shivered at the coolness that was inside. She walked inside a bit more, touching the walls. Now she could see what it looked like the correct way, without having to climb on walls. She was in awe, seeing the words she saw the first time she was in here.

Nobody had went inside after Phoenix did. They all looked at each other, Jenn looking at Dominique. She tilted her head at him, then they made eye contact. She smiled at him, and as he smiled back, he was the second to get on the ship. Standing behind Phoenix, his expression changed from a simple look to a look of disbelief and awe. He looked ahead and saw the words Phoenix first saw, smiling. After that, everyone else got on the ship, Jenn going to grab Phoenix's jacket again.

Outside the ship, the Generals looked inside and saw the 6 just standing there. They smiled, General Paris clapping her hands.

"I told you two, those two were the best pick. She got on first and then him. Perfect for Captain and Co-Captain."

"Well then go tell them already! They deserve to know." General Moon looked at General Paris, smiling slightly. She smiled widely, getting on board and then directing the kids to the cockpit for them to sit down.

"So…this year is almost over, meaning that you're training is beginning. This also means that your positioned need to be revealed," she began. Everyone's hearts began to beat faster, Phoenix and Sapphire doing their linked leg bouncing. General Paris stood infront of the table, then walked around, examining all the kids.

"Everyone has a position, so if you're not a high position, don't feel bad. These could change. Throughout the course of your training, we will be testing you to see if you deserve a high or lower position. Most people work hard enough and keep their positions, and the same will be expected from you. Our choices for these positions have never failed."

Out of everyone, Jenn was the most relaxed. Her face was calm, not showing any expression. She kept her eyes on the General, waiting for her to tell who the positions were.

Jenn had a feeling of who everyone was already. She could see it based on the couple of weeks she's known the group for.

She guessed that Phoenix would be captain, as she was always the first to do something. It's as if she would get it wrong, the others could piggy back off of her and get it right. Dominique would be co-captain, as he always stood behind the group to examine what they did. In tough situations, he would be the one with a plan to get them out, and would be a good aid in helping Phoenix keep everything under control. Alexander would be pilot, as he was good with mechanics and buttons of such. Silas or Phoenix would be co-pilots, probably both. They might switch places, depending on the situation. Her and Sapphire would make sure that everything else in the ship was alright, basically taking care of logistics and such, which was a hard job, but nonetheless, it fit them.

"Alright, lets begin the revealing of your positions."
