Part 28

[Past]

Luciens hands itched to just pull the trigger each time that son of a bitch Michael hung around Lara. He seemed to create situations just so she would depend on him. He knew she knew but he couldn't figure out for the life of him why she still let him hang around her.

Ever since the day he had hugged her in the balcony he had realized how much he exactly needed her. Five years were too much. He needed her, now. But Michael didn't look like he planned on giving up on her.

He wondered if he should just end his life when he was not with Lara but then again he decided to ultimately leave the decision to Lara. It was her problem to deal with and if anything, he just wanted to observe how she would deal with it. He wanted to know if after all these years of controlling her and forming her in the image of his mother had really resulted in anything or not.

He got his answer very soon.

"They're planning on walking back home together too," Rile informed Lucien over the phone. "Do you want me to follow them like always?"

"No, I'm coming." Lucien got into his car, pulling off his blazer and putting on a long coat. For some reason it always seemed to get colder whenever he went out to see her.

He drove to their campus and got off a block before the actual university. He walked the distance and saw them just as they were leaving the campus together, hand in hand.

Michael seemed like he was telling her something very excitedly and Lara turned with a smile to him and that was the moment Lucien realized if he followed them today he would get to see something very interesting.

He went around them and reached the bridge before them. The bridge had an amazing view, specially during sunset. The sky was a brilliant red and it looked breathtaking.

Today is the day I get her back, he thought happily, even if it means I need to kill that pest.

He went inside an alley and waited till they passed by. Soon enough, Lara and Michael approached the bridge. Lara's voice was ice cold, her smile almost pinned to her face. The more Lucien saw her, the more he felt in love. No wonder Michael had fallen in love with her, too. She was one of a kind.

"Would you kill anyone who gets in the way of our relationship?" He heard her say and her tone made his heart beat faster. He wanted to hug her so much.

"Yes I will." Michael's voice rang out brightly, in contrast with her icy tone.

Lucien saw her stop walking. They were in the middle of a deserted road, not even a car was in sight.

"I don't love you." She pulled out a gun from the back of her jeans.

Lucien acted before he even thought it through. His hand pulled the trigger the moment he heard her.

His gunshot echoed in the silence of the afternoon.

Lucien had always been a good shot.

As Michael's body fell to the ground, his eyes found Lara. She didn't look surprised to see him. Nor did she look frightened. She had toughened up, just like he wanted.

He grinned. He had not felt this type of satisfaction for a while. She was now again his.

Lucien saw Lara looked down at the dead body in distaste, still convulsing in pain. Her gun was still pointed at him and once she seemed to realize that, she lowered it.

"Said I would be back." Lucien stepped over the dead body.

I kept my promise, he thought, now its your turn.
