Chapter Nineteen

"What the fuck dude!" I check Verona's head for any major damage. Her head checks out fine and I let out a sigh. "What are you doing here?"

"My job, amigo. What are you doing canoodling with the enemy?"

I woke up with loud whisper shouting in the room, and when I opened my eyes Jasper and another person with an unfamiliar accent stood conversing.

Although Jasper had a frown on his face, he seemed comfortable around the young man. The young man seemed the same, which meant this is someone from Jasper's past.

It made both angry and excited to see it. Angry because this meant trouble, and after all the trouble Jasper's landed me in so far, I would rather avoid anymore. Excited however to see what this guy can tell me about Jasper, because I'd be lying to myself if I didn't admit I wasn't in the least bit interested to know more about him. I mean to be fair Jasper knows everything about me, I want to know something about him that isn't a carefully placed facade.

"There isn't a universe in which I would ever be caught dead canoodling Jasper." I interrupt. Getting up from the bed, I guessed Jasper must've moved me to when I was out cold.

"Harsh, but honest. I like her." He turned to me; his arms crossed over his chest.

The young man was wearing a maid's outfit, which surprisingly fit very well on him. With shorts and a shirt underneath it, covering all the would be scandalous and revealing parts of his body. With bright platinum hair, green sunglasses, and a dangling earring on his left ear he couldn't stand out any less.

"Flattered, but who are you?" I ask, not withholding the blunt annoyance in my voice.

"You can call me Sirius; I work with Jasper." He offers his hand out to shake, but I keep mine to my sides. "Ouch. No hard feelings, I get it. If the guy who knocked me out wanted to be all buddy buddy all of a sudden, I'd be a little hesitant too." He shrugged, looking to Jasper. "So, what's the situation here? You two are planning to run away with each other or...?" He looks between the both of us and I scoff.

"Hardly." I answer.

"Somehow, I don't believe that. And I don't think Jasper does either." He says with a small frown.

"So, you're a bounty hunter too then?" I ask quickly to change the subject.

"Bounty hunter?" He questions.

"Yes. He's a bounty hunter, but there'll be a time for questions later you have to get ready for the gala Adria." Jasper who has been silent this entire time jumps in to input. He grabs Sirius, by the arm and yanks him out the door stepping out into the hallway with him. "I'll see you there later." He says before the door shuts behind him.

"Well then, time to piss off my dearest auntie, her majesty." I say to myself and walk over to the closet. On my way there, I spot the mess I made with the Pia board game, and I can't stop the smile growing on my face.

"What the hell are you doing here?!"

"Wow, what a welcome. No, hey seven how are you? You remember that time when I left you for stranded in the middle of the desert on a mission?" I pull Sirius/Seven into my room and close the door.

"Seven, I knew you could get a way out. Let's not pretend you didn't steal half of the valuables from that temple, including the high-tech teleporter." I drop the shades on the windows making sure nobody could see us. "Did he send you here? I know I have not reported back, but I'm still..." I swipe my hand through my hair, frustrated by what this means.

"You've missed too many of your check ins dude. He thought- we all thought you were dead. One sent me in to check in or if necessary, get the job done myself. So, what the hel are you doing here?" He asks, plopping himself down on a chair.

"I'm going for the Queen."

"You're kidding. Tell me you're kidding." He stands up and shakes the magic out of me. "Thats a suicide mission." He stares at me, and his eyes widen. "Oh, this isn't about the Queen at all is it?"

I brush him off and open my wardrobe to find something to change into. "Yes, it is, Sirius. By the way, what's up with that? Why'd you give her your last name?"

"Because, Jasper, even if you might not see it right now, she is still the mark."

I pull out a black tux, that's been neatly pressed but it scrunches up in my tight hold. "I know, she is." I mutter with a frown.
