DING! DING!! DING!!!
I’m coming!! I heard Rose yell as she raced to the door, she is going to hurt herself with the rate at which she runs around I wondered to myself, just as that annoying vibration started. “Umm…B! You have a visitor, a hottie!” announced Rose as she stepped followed by Morgan. “I guess I’m the hottie, hi Bruce!” she greeted as she stepped in front of Rose, smiling at me. Her red hair was resting on her shoulder, she wore a white tank top, a blue jean and a short leather jacket with a blue and white sneakers. “Hi Morgan, What are you doing here, its 8pm” I asked in surprise as Rose went into the kitchen leaving only Morgan and I in the living room. She dropped her bag on one of the chairs, and walked around the living room, admiring the art works.
“You weren’t in school today.”
“Yeah, I wasn’t felling so well,” of cause I was, I put up a sick front that morning so I’d be able to fully document every abnormally that occurred from the moment I saw the girl in the alley and my near death experience all the way to my dream that turned out to be a body procession.
“How are you feeling now?” Her eyes remained focused of a paint of four horse riders. “Much better, did you drop by to check up on me?”
She turned to face me now, “not totally, I need your help.”
I raised an eyebrow as she continued
“I heard you are one of the smartest people in class, so I decided to check up on you and ask you to help me get up to speed with home works and school stuff.”
“How did you even find where I live?”
“Wasn’t that hard, you are not the only smart one in room.”
“Actually I’m the smart one, he is the less smart one,” Rose interrupted walking into the living room holding a tray with a can of Pepsi and on small bowl of chips. She walked straight to Morgan and handed the tray to her. “Thanks you so much,” Morgan beamed a smile as she took the tray from rose and it on the nearest stool.
Trying to act so subtle Rose turned to me still smiling and making a move towards the stairs, “B! I’m going to be in my room, there are things I need to get done.” Without waiting for my response, she was gone like a bolt.
“I think I like her,” Morgan had a glee in her eyes, one that I had never seen there before. She looked comfortable and at home here not uptight as she did in school.
“Yeah I bet you do.”
“So, are you gonna help me?”
“Sure! I’m not a sadist, come along now, my books are in my room upstairs.” With a nod she grabbed her bag pack and the tray in a swift graceful moment. It was just at this moment that it occurred to me that I didn’t feel the annoying vibration anymore. We have been standing in close proximity and I didn’t feel anything.
“Lead the way captain,” she didn’t need help but I took her bag from her, it felt right.
“This looks nice,” she scanned the room as we stepped in.
“It’s not the typical guys’ room I know of, and I have been in quite a few.”
“Well I’m different.”
“Sure you are,” with a smirk she placed the tray on the far end of the table. We minutes were all set up next to my table and going through books. While trying to place a textbook next to her notebook, she accidentally knocked off her bag and a pair of ring daggers slide out of her bag. The urgency and speed she applied told me that that was something she didn’t want me to see. We studied for a very long time, completing her assignments and trying to cover as many areas as that we could in one night.
“Did you hear about the bizarre sonic abnormally that happened yesterday?” Morgan asked, stretching in her seat. I blinked twice and answered and could hear my heart pounding heavily. “Yeah, it’s been all over the news,” deciding the best play here was to act cool, I kept my face blank.
“What do you think happened out there?”
“I have no idea, I guess that’s why it’s called an abnormally”
She kept her eyes squarely on me for a moment and turned her attention to her books. “What’s the problem Morgan?”
“Nothing, it’s just that I don’t believe the stories on the news, it doesn’t add up or make any sense.” She paused to look at me now, “and I guess I kinda hoped you had a different opinion about it.”
I ran my hands gently through my hair, matching my gaze to hers. “Normally I would have given it more thought, but as indicated from my sick day, I have been preoccupied with my illness.
“Oh yeah, I forgot. Good to know you are feeling better now.”
“Thank you, can I ask you a question?”
“Yeah, shoot,” she pushed her notebook aside and finished up her Pepsi in one gulp.
“Why do you have a ring dagger in your bag?” She stiffened for few seconds, clearly shocked that I noticed the daggers. “It’s for self-defense” she finally answered now avoiding my gaze as she drew her notebook closer. “Normal girls carry pepper spray or a teaser not a ring dagger”
“Well I’m clearly not like other girls, am I?”
“Do you even know how to use that thing?”
In what seemed like barely three seconds, she opened her bag, drew out one of her ring daggers and launched for me. She knocked me off the chair to the floor and sat over me with the dagger resting at my chest. I got a good look at the ring dagger this time and it had some ancient cravings along the blade and handle. “Does that answer your question?”
“Yeah I get it, you were trained by Rah al Ghul, the demon’s head and head of the league of assassins.” She let out a laugh that was so rich and cute, “Very funny Bruce, I didn’t see that one coming.”
I was just about to respond when suddenly I felt it, just like in the previous day, I felt my body being possessed again.
I drew the hands holding the dagger to the side, knocking it off with a free arm while my leg rose and pushed her over me. I twined and in an instant I was crouching and so was she. She looked excited and amused at the same time. In a blink, I felt my body as my own again and I rose to my feet and managed a smile. She followed suit, right
“That’s very impressive Bruce.” Her smile was full and effortless now, if nothing else, she was intrigued.
“Thank you, I guess it’s safe to say that we both have some tricks off our sleeves.”
“Yeah you could say that. I find you interesting Bruce.” She brushed her hair back keeping her eyes at my level now.
Just before I could respond to that, there was a knock on the door and seconds later, Rose was standing at the door frame.
“Um sorry to interrupt, but mum and dad are back, I thought you’d like to know.
“I guess I better get going, it’s actually very late.” Morgan returned to the table and began moving the books into her back. At the doorframe, Rose mouthed “Sorry,” and retreated to meet our parents downstairs. When I turned Morgan was already strapping her bag on. “Let me walk you to the door,” with a smile she nodded making a move for the door.
“I need you to understand that this is not a time to be reckless, there are a lot of things at stake here so I’ll recommend caution and discretion. Find the boy and bring him to me alive and unharmed, I want to see him. Find and bring him to me before the next sunrise rise.”
“Yes Supreme Triskelion Knight, the boy will be delivered to you as requested.”
I woke with a start, squinting around to get my bearing. The digital clock next to my bed announced it was six o’clock in the morning and the dim light making it into my room from the window all but reassuring me that I was still in my room and I was alone.
Whose voice did I hear in my sleep, it sounded like a woman give a man instructions to find a boy. Wait a minute, were they referring to me and was I the boy in question.
