Chapter Two

If you think going to an elite school is cool, you might wanna think again. My name is Tonaya Whitley and this is my story.

It all started at the end of the school year and we were all happy that middle school is finally over until my best friend came with bad news, she's enrolling in a private school, the most expensive private school in town. Her dad's oil business kicked off and he decided to ruin our friendship. It was so hard for both of us, especially that I can never even in my dreams afford to go there.

Then, an opportunity came to me, a miracle maybe, scholarship test to enroll in the school. I did my best to be one of the lucky ones that write the test. It was a one-person scholarship with fifty brilliant students fighting for it. I had cold feet, no sign of hope.

It took me one semester and heartbreak before the scholarship letter arrived at my mailbox. I was literally the happiest human in the world at the moment. Hopefully, I found the letter first before my aunt, who's my foster monster and also my half aunt. She does not care how my life will turn out. She's a monster in human form, I always wished I could get rid of her.

I don't know how I did it but I got the monster to sign the acceptance letter. It was a dream come true. Tonaya Whitley enrolling in an elite privates school? That's unbelievable.

6:30 am

[Alarm clock ring]

I was wide awake, excited about my first day as a student at Diamond Crown Elite School. I couldn't get myself to sleep the whole night, I kept imagining how great it will be to make friends with rich kids and finally be invited to cool parties. I was a crazy girl with weird imaginations.

I made sure everything I would need for the day was ready. I don't want to be late on my first day, especially when I had to finish the house chores before leaving.

7:30 am

I was still on the chores, I did not know doing the house chores could be time taking. The time was rushing and a lot of chores were not done.

"Oh dear godmother come and help me" I prayed.

I thought of leaving the chores for later but then I thought of packing along and never come back to the house again cuz Aunt Diva is gonna kill me if I don't finish the chores.

7:40 am

"Oh, God! I can't be late on my first day" I thought.

Finally, I got done with the chores. I wanted to take a shower but time wouldn't allow it. I wore my uniform, picked up my backpack, and stomped out of the house.

7:45 am

"Oh, no! I'm going to be late"

I was running like crazy, like running or my life. My heart was pumping so hard. My skin was cold as ice and sweat ran down my spine.

Whew! I stopped to catch my breath.

It was annoying how the school had no bus, mostly because they teach rich kids. It was my first day but I was already regretting it. I should have gone to public school, I thought. My only luck was, the school is not far from my home.

I wiped the sweat off my forehead then checked the time, it clicked 7:45 already but I could saw the building from where I was.

7:50 am

I arrived at the school lobby. I saw my best friend Sophia Goldman, it looked like she was looking for someone around the students going in.

"Tonaya" Sophie yelled and waved when she spotted me.

Everyone turned around to look at me, I just stood there stupidly. I totally looked alien around the other students. The glare made me nervous and I waved back at her. She ran to with a smile.

"Hey, Sophie," I said while still panting from the exhaustion of running.

-Sophie: Hi, Tonaya. You look like a mess.

"I knew right" I combed my long tangled hair with my fingers and fixed my eyebrows with my fingertips while Sophie help me fix my long bangs.

-Sophie: why are you late?

"Sophie remember, I don't have a car?"

Sophie gasped "you walk to school?"

"What's is wrong with you!? You should've told me to pick you up.

"I know, I just don't wanna get you late. The chores must be done"

-Sophie: That witch still made you do the chores on your first day? Don't she have a heart?

"She doesn't"

-Sophie: I just wanna choke her and bring the end of her. Don't worry from today on I will pick you up.

"Sophie..."

-Sophie: nuh-uh, I will not take no for an answer. You cannot walk to school every day"

"Okay...but why is everyone staring at me?" I said when I turned around and everyone is looking at me.

"You'll get used to it. Now come with me" she grabbed my wrist and walked down the hallway. We went to some sort of lounge, maybe a resting area? It was beautifully designed and arranged.

"What is this place?" I said

"This is the ladies lounge. we come here to freshen up" Sophie replied.

"So...what are we doing here?"

-Sophie: gurl, you are in a private school and the way you look does not sync with the environment, you need to be fixed.

She pulled out a powder, comb, and lipstick from her bag.

"You bring all that to school?"

"Is it allowed?"

-Sophie: sweetie, the only rule in DC is to look good and never mess up.

I understood what she meant from the look of the students around, no one is ready for school. They can go to dinner with that makeup.

8:05 am

Sophie accompanied me to settle the remaining of my clearance, and we went to class after. Everything in the school was just different, the lockers, the restrooms, their pool is bigger than the school, and they had chesterfield couches in classrooms.

I and Sophie sat on the second to last seat in the second row. Sophie called on to the guy on another seat next to outs "hi, Ezra". He was talking to the guy next to him before he turned around " oh! Hi Sophie! How are you doing?" He answered

He's light-skinned with a thin face and curly brown hair.

-Sophie: Good. Meet my friend Tonaya, she's new here.

-Ezra: Hi Tonaya! Delighted to meet you. My name is Ezra Arnault.

"Hi" I replied and we shook hands.

"He is one of the smart ones here" Sophie whispered to me.

His thick glasses and smart dressing says it all. He was literally the only person that wore a tie in the whole school.
