Flying Hearts

Khaleel's POV

"What took you so long? I've been waiting here for about an hour already". My grandma, Morgan Adam complained the moment I climbed into the backseat of her car. The front seat was loaded with her stuff. Her big black bag, her thick jacket, her iPad, a tumbler of water, and a ziplock of assorted biscuits and nuts. No one would be hungry with my grandma.

I saw a take-out bag of McDonald's at the backseat on top of the box of groceries. I immediately grabbed it and peeped at what was inside.

"Oops! Get the burger and the fries. The snack wrap is mine." Grandma eyed me at the rearview mirror as she drove the car.

I was eating my burger when grandma asked "how's school?"

"Fine."

"I saw Paul's mom this morning. She said that Paul failed his physics exam. What about you. Did you pass it?" Grandma asked.

"Of course. The exam was really hard, but I was able to pass it."

I saw my grandma smile. "I'm so proud of you, kherl. You're a smart boy."

Oh-oh. If only you knew, grandma.

"Anyways, she also told me about a boy in your school who got his girlfriend pregnant. Is that true?"

I frowned, not liking the idea of grandma gossiping. Normally, she's not like that.

"Yeah. He's a senior."

She heaved a sigh. "You should be careful, kherl. Don't engage in premarital sex. You're too young to become a father. You have to concentrate on your studies first.

"Grandma." I cut her off.

"Yes?" One of her eyebrows rose a fraction.

"Actually, there's something that I would like to tell you."

There was a long pause, then she asked. "What is it?"

"Promise me you won't get upset," I asked her.

"Oh my God. Okay...okay what is it?" My grandma stopped the car at the sidewalk.

"I did something bad, grandma. I disappointed you and grandpa."

"Oh, kherl, why did you do it?" Grandma was about to cry now.

"I don't know. I'm just so stupid."

"Your grandpa will be very upset once he finds out, but I'll make him understand."

"Thank you, grandma, you're the greatest. I love you."

"Who's the girl?"

"What girl?"

"The one you got pregnant."

"Ewww, gross. What are you talking about, grandma? I didn't get any girl pregnant."

"You did not?"

"Of course not. I failed my last English exam. I have to lead the school trip next week."

"That's it? You did not get anyone pregnant?"

"Stop saying it, you are getting me disgusted".

She exhaled heavily. "Oh thank God. I thought you did something terrible. Good thing you just failed an exam."

We got home in no time. I rushed to my room kept my bag on the study table and took off my uniform, I don't like staying in uniforms when I got home, I feel dirty. I took a shower and damp myself on the bed. I don't need lunch I've already taken a burger before getting home. I opened my side drawer and reached to my grandpa's diary.

"It's been an exhausting day diary" I murmured.

Daniyan's POV

I just finished getting dressed when I heard my mom shout my name downstairs. I could guess it. Morgan branched at my house to go to school together. I don't like getting close to her anymore, I was avoiding her for days. Am afraid I can't get hold of myself. I grabbed up my backpack from the bed and rushed down before my mom's throat get out of her neck.

"Hey, Daniyan." Morgan greeted.

"Hi" I greeted back.

I picked up the cereal on the dining table and took a sip. It was my favorite, Honey Nut Cheerios, so I can't miss it. I dropped it after three to four sips, and say goodbye to my mom. We were already late, which means we might miss the bus.

"So how you doing?" Morgan started the conversation as we were walking to the bus stop.

"Good. You?"

"Good. But you don't seem good"

"Am just a little bit sick"

"All days? You've been avoiding me all days, why?"

"No...am just busy".

"Don't be stupid, you've never been busy to me"

"..." I was about to make new excuses when she cut off and added.

"Maybe you got yourself a substitute. Are you in a relationship?" She turned and reached to my shoulders.

My heart runs faster than a parachute now. I kept staring at her mesmerizing eyes. She looks better than I know her before. Her hair flying in the air, and the scent of her cologne escaping to my nose. I froze.

"Anyway, I just hope she's not prettier than me" she added.

I kept quiet for a while then nodded nervously, saying something at the time was not a good idea, I can't feel myself anymore.

"That's better" she sighed

"Hey, we're running late, let's talk later" I broke the talk.

"Yeah let's run fast" she grabbed my wrist and ran.
