"I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!" the boss yelled, "Nothing you ever say can be anything good. One more lawsuit, one more set of coverup money from our already tightly squeezed research fund. One more person who knows about our issues!"
He was really done with this job of his.
It was long work hours, decent pay and no vacations. The only benefit was a hefty retirement fund, if he made it to the age of retirement of course.
The way most of the intolerable discharge, which was either death by gun or death by stress. In the boss's case, the stress one was much more likely.
Considering that he didn't have the energy to deal with any of this, he set down the phone. Once put down, the call with Feng Jiao was automatically cut.
Feng Jiao was relieved that she didn't have to hear anything more from the boss. All the risk in her words had confirmed to add up to zero risk in total. It was a great deal for her after all. She got to get out of her room, and also she got to stress out the boss.
Either way the boss had to find out about this sooner or later. It was best that she delivered the news.
That way at least she would get to enjoy the boss's reaction.
The boss, so far, was having a mental breakdown from overworking and now this. It was surely a fun time to be him.
'If I ignore him he'll go away right?' thought the boss. He stared out of the window to look at Gao Longwei and hid behind the wall whenever he felt like Gao Longwei was looking in his direction.
More than once, the boss felt like Gao Longwei was staring straight at him, but unknown to the boss, this was just a complete delusion on his part.
'Since he hasn't come in, he probably doesn't have anything to say right? He probably is just standing there to enjoy the fresh air.'
This logic was impeccably wrong since most normal people don't stand in the middle of a highway to get some fresh air, especially for a grand total of eight hours. The boss could only hope that this man was one such abnormal specimen, and close the curtains.
Gao Longwei who stood outside in the chilling cold, had no idea that the boss was spying on him. Usually Gao Longwei would be able to notice any intent gazes, after all, he'd often had to escape assination attempts, but the boss's presence was just so weak-
He didn't have any strength or passion left in him after all this time of sitting around waiting for life to improve. He was just a depressed shell of a man at times, and it was understandable.
Feng Jiao might be annoying, but she was the one bringing energy to the agency. Everyone else was old. The researchers weren't only old, they were also people who drained energy out of people. They too were depressed after all.
The werewolf hunting industry wasn't exactly a fun place to be in.
You had to watch every move of yours to make sure that you weren't getting targeted by werewolves who were up to shady things, and on top of that you had to live with the guilt of killing somebody. That weighed down heavily, even if they were nasty people.
Feng Jiao, luckily, wasn't born with the capability to think about something for more than five seconds, so she'd never once felt guilty about killing werewolves.
On top of that, she saw alphas and dominant alphas as pieces of crap that tried to control everything around them and troubled the normal werewolves. No one felt bad putting down rabid killer dogs, and Feng Jiao thought of the werewolves like that.
Thus, without the slightest shred of hesitation she blew off the heads of any werewolf that dared cross her path by appearing on the government sponsored hitlist.
Feng Jiao could single handedly clear out the list but the boss wouldn't let her.
The boss, was currently having a panic attack, and was totally considering getting Feng Jiao to kill the man outside to cover up this nonsense.
Then if she could burn his body and spread the ashes in a river, that would be ideal.
The boss had never thought he would be as bloodthirsty and soulless as Feng Jiao some day and instantly felt bad about even thinking about doing that. The man outside had done nothing wrong. It was Feng Jiao who had blown her cover.
If someone had to be put down, wouldn't it make more sense for that person to be Feng Jiao?
Feng Jiao sniffled in her room as she stared at the werewolf below her. With every glance she felt her heart pump, with animosity and hatred no doubt. He was a dominant alpha. What were the odds that he was a scumbag too?
Almost one hundred percent.
Feng Jiao didn't understand why she felt so strongly against this man every time she looked at him.
Perhaps it was her instincts telling her that the man was going to tie her up. In marriage of course. Once married it would be doubtful that Feng Jiao would be able to keep running around shooting werewolves. On top of that, no sane spouse would want their partner doing a job like that.
Any werewolf would've interpreted the heart racing accurately as their mate being nearby, but Feng Jiao who didn't have a clue about mates or werewolf pairings, had no clue that the symptoms matched up to something like that.
She snuggled into her blanket with a smile, thinking of how she could disembowel the werewolf she had met today. They weren't pretty dreams for sure, but they were hers and that was all that mattered.
Feng Jiao felt excited to go to school for the first time in a very long while.
Actually the first time ever.
Tomorrow was going to be a long day.
