"JAKE!"
Jake's eyes rolled forward from the back of his head as he heard Jaylen snap in his ear.
"Huh?"
"There you are, I've been trying to get you out of this trance for like five minutes. We have to get going."
"Sorry, my bad. Guess I was lost in thought."
"Umm Jake. Can I tell you a securete?"
"Sure"
Jake looked at her in curiosity as they walked.
"I need some help, c-can you come with me after classes. It has to do with my class. I picked a core ability, but I need some help controlling it."
"Core ability already? Don't you want to wait till you get something really good first?"
"I already did. But I don't want anyone outside of the party to know about it, and I need someone to help me control it after shopping."
"Shopping? Are you a cra-"
"Time for class, just meet me in the first commons after classes."
Jake didn't want to show it, but he was excited to go shopping. Although he wasn't the biggest fan in the past, now that he could shop for potions, skills, techniques, scrolls, weapons, armor, beasts, and other magic items things would be a lot more interesting. Previously, he couldn't enter such stores as someone unawaked could die on accident from a stray beast or even mana overloud if they were unlucky. Before that, he had to get class out of the way.
"Welcome back everyone, let's get started. Today's focus is getting to know each other. I'm sure everyone has shared their class and level, but why don't we go with everyone's race and how they were raised. Remember some people are here on scholarship and others may be extremely rich, so be respectful of everyone; but also be honest. Trust is important for you all."
"I-I'm Jaylen Crown. From the Royal Crown family. My family is extremely caring and powerful in the ways of magic. My family paid for classes outright and I have one sibling in this school."
"See, that was perfect. Everyone here might become your new family, even if statistically most of you will leave, still support everyone. "
"I'm an elf named Criss Gonnet. My mum's a gunsmith, we are fairly well off and could pay for tuition outwrite. It's just me and her, so no siblings here."
"Ray Mont, I'm a triton but I was raised by worshipers of the shark god. My only family are the nuns at the house of worship. The church felt I deserved to go, so they paid for me to come."
"My race is locked along with everything else except my name, Jax. My family died when I was young and I have lived on the streets ever since. I ended up meeting one of the teachers out there who invited me afterseeing my potential talent. I have a lot of curses, and he thinks that I will have some real ability if I end up breaking them."
"My dads a blacksmith and my mom works in an office. We don't have much but on top of some loans we were able to pay for it. Around 400k was saved and then the three of us each have 200k in debt so we can pay for it. I'm Jake by the way."
"Wait, you never mentioned your race, what are you?"
Ray pointed out
"Hmm. I am… I'm not actually sure. I haven't got any racial skills, but my dad is a dwarf and my mom is a dark elf. I look like a human because I got my mom's body with my dad's skin. But like I said, I actually have no idea I will see if I can find out."
"No race skills!?! Like none at all. For how strong you are I figured you would have too."
The teacher was surprised, but still wanted to move on.
"I'm a mantis insectoid. My biological father died during mating, and my mother sent me to be raised by one of the wolf eyes guild."
"W-wolf eyes? Aren't they known for assassinations?!"
Jaylen pointed out, clearly scared of even the thought. Yi's ascent was much more sophisticated than even Jaylen, who was a princess.
"I was raised there and the guild paid for my tuition as a reward. A small note to all of you is that this is my first time outside of the guild and missions. So my interaction with other people is quite limited."
The professor coughed to interrupt.
"Can everyone move along, we don't have too much time set aside for this. I didn't expect you to have such interesting lives."
"I'm a Tiefling, and I ran away from home at 12. I started worshiping the god of sacrifice soon after, who ended up getting me on scholarship."
"A god gave you a scholarship?"
"Not exactly, gods don't work like that. Especially the big ones but I found a way around it."
"I was cast out of my Yuan-Ti tribe for renouncing the serpent god, and stole enough money to get in before I left to get in here."
"I thought they killed purebloods if they did something like that?"
The professor said, quite impressed with the group and its diversity.
