XIX (Part II)

Good thing that Harris is not that far away from me because when I open the door to attack the chef, he immediately drags me back into our hiding spot and keeps me from exposing our safety. After all, we don't have any weapon with us, unlike the enemy. The well-polished knives are located behind him while he's facing us. Any attempt to attack him without any proper plan is just suicide.

"Amy, what do you think you are doing? Are you trying to expose us up?" he whispers to me as he continues to look outside. I'm still amazed how the chef has not noticed us yet.

The chef has not noticed us yet. How?

"Are you really going to be the one who's going to stop me, Harris?! I thought you would understand," I whisper with gritted teeth but he ignores me as he observes the man on the opposite of the door. "Also, That's your friend out there!"

"Harris, we should not just be hiding from here. What are your plans to escape? The stove is outside and we're locked up in storage full of dead human bodies. Tell me, what is your plan?" He still ignores me.

"Harris-" I am about to continue talking when he shushes me up and gently brought me to the door. He then goes behind me.

"Amy, look. Don't you see anything unusual?" I can feel his breath on my ear. It is warm yet ticklish. He points at the chef. The chef slowly touches the bag in front of him like it is some precious gift. It seems like he is caressing it like a newborn baby. With his hand just hovering above the bag, touching, and feeling.

"What do you mean?" At first, I don't see anything wrong with it. The chef just looks like he is admiring the meat that is in front of him. "isn't he just admiring what's in front of him?" I ask.

"No, look at his gestures," he says. I go silent as I try to find out what he is trying to say. After observing for a while, I notice that the chef is lightly tapping the top of the bag. Eventually, he finds the metal of the zipper on the rightest part of the bag. Wait...

My eyes widen as I look up to see Harris. Why haven't we realized this before?

"Is he blind?" I whisper. I did not expect this.

That is why he did not even try to find Harris and me after throwing a knife at us earlier.

That is why he seems to be indifferent when I have tried to go out earlier.

"Yes," Harris nods in my direction.

"Damn!" I mutter... to which I also let out a small laugh. I can't stop myself from giggling. "So all our crawling earlier was a waste? He can't even see us."

For the first time since tonight, is luck finally siding with us?

"So here's the plan," I hear Harris say as he tells me what's on his mind. "We have to be as silent as we can when we go out. People with eyesight disabilities are very sensitive to sound and their surroundings. We have to be careful."

"Okay,"

Harris goes out of the storage room and I follow him. I will serve as a lookout for the people outside of the kitchen. It is originally planned to be a swift move. Maybe, knock out the chef and lock him up in the storage. However, things don't go according to our plan. It seems like the Chef has sensed our attacks and he starts to fling his swords in the air.

"Don't come near me or I'll kill you!" he shouts. Harris keeps on walking a few steps nearer the chef while he is trying to avoid the knife that is flying around.

I do not know if Harris has even tried to do martial arts. This is not a movie, too, where we can ask for a stunt double. All I know is Harris is there, trying to avoid the knives as he swiftly moves near the sink behind the chef. He stood there silently like he is waiting for the chef to get tired. I can see that he is breathing heavily, too. He must be scared. Who isn't going to be? It is evident that even if the chef is blind, the way he holds his knife is very precise and he's not just swinging it around aimlessly. He's a pro against Harris and me who are obviously beginners.

Eventually, the chef stops his havoc.

"Sheez," we hear him say as he goes back to face the bag, "It must just be my imagination."

I look at Harris and notice that he is looking at me, too. He nods as if signaling to me that he is now going to do the deed. Killing is also not our intention. We don't want to kill anyone just like how the other guests here have done. I can still remember how Yohanne is murdered after falling on the staircase. Harris and I have planned not to kill anyone but when he picks up a huge white ceramic plate to smash on the chef's head to make him faint, the chef turns around and flung his knife toward Harris and making the latter's left arm bleed letting the plate shatter to a hundred pieces on the ground.

"Aha!" The chef exclaims, "There you are you little rat!" I cover my mouth to stop myself from screaming. He moves his arms again in an attempt to kill Harris. Good thing that Harris can block it, too. I run to the other side of the table to help them but Harris stops me.

"NO! STAY THERE!" He warns me. "Don't come near us!'

"Ohh~" I can hear the sarcasm in the chef's words, "So you brought your friend with you here, huh? Don't worry. You won't even escape from here, you pests! I'll make sure that neither of you will ever catch the sunrise!"

"Dream on, you monster!" Harris fights back with all his might. His blood is gushing out from his arms and it keeps on painting the white tiled floor red. "None of you even deserve to survive. We do not know how many people you have killed. Yet we will make sure that none of you will ever victimize another set of souls again!"

I can't make out what happens next. Everything is so fast now, the chef is leaning on the table while Harris holds the knife and he puts it on the chef's throat. "I'll make sure that none of you will ever live to see the reality. We will ruin this hotel where its ashes get burned down to the ground as all of you bow and pray for forgiveness to the souls you have brutally taken."

I take a step backward as Harris' expression scares me. It is the first time that I have seen him like this. He's always been trying to be the one who thinks and solves the problem with logic. He's the type who is always running on the safest options although it hurts him. However, right now, he looks like he's going to make the first-ever crime he has done in his life.

And he did.
