Come Fairies, take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind and dance upon the mountains like a flame! -William Butler Yeats
The engine of the car purrs softly. I place my hand on the gear stick. A loud cracking noise explodes in my ears. Shards of glass rain down upon me.
My body is ripped from the safe confines of the car. I'm pulled through the shattered window. My back and shoulders slam hard against the ground, driving loose pebbles into my tender flesh.
Gasping for air, I stand to run, but my feet are swept out from underneath me. I'm pressed to the ground, and my face is shoved into the loose gravel on the driveway. Twisting sideways, I fill my lungs with air and scream. Stephen rolls me onto my back. He wraps his hands around my neck.
I pull at his fingers, trying to loosen his grip, but my movements are sluggish. "Get off me."
"Scream all you want. No one can hear you, remember."
